Facebook launches Digital Currency Libra for Users Worldwide

Facebook has announced a new virtual currency Libra next year enabling users to transact through a digital wallet on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

Libra Association debuted with 28 members including Mastercard, Visa, Stripe, Kiva, PayPal, Lyft, Uber and Women's World Banking.

Facebook also announced a new digital wallet called Calibra, which will be operated by Facebook as a separate subsidiary and provide users with a way to store and spend Libra.

Facebook and some two dozen of companies and non-profit organizations that will together manage the currency through a Swiss foundation.
