RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resigns 6 months before his term ends
Viral Acharya was appointed as the RBI deputy governor by the government on January 23, 2017, for a three-year term.
Viral Acharya is returning to New York University Stern School of Business (NYU Stern) in August, instead of February 2020, as the CV Starr Professor of Economics.
Currently, Acharya is in charge of the Financial Stability Unit, Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, Financial Markets Operation Department, Financial Market Regulation Department in Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
He has raised concern over the importance of RBI’s independence in October 2018.
