K Natarajan Takes Over As DG of Indian Coast Guard

K Natarajan took over as 23rd Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). He will take over from Rajendra Singh, who retires on June 30.

A 1984-batch officer, Natarajan has held various important command and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore.

Natarajan is currently the Additional Director General of the ICG's Western Sea Board, which looks after the security of the sensitive maritime boundary from Gujarat to Kerala.


He has commanded all classes of Indian Coast Guard ships like Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV), Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) and Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV).

He has also served as the Commander Coast Guard District No. 5 (Tamil Nadu), the Commanding Officer ICGS Mandapam and as the first Officer-in-Charge of Coast Guard Training Centre (Kochi).
