‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme from July 1, 2020

Government of India ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme, under which beneficiaries can buy subsidized food grains from any ration shop in the country will begin on 1 July 2020.

The Centre has given states and Union Territories time till June 30, 2020, to roll out the ‘one nation, one ration card’ system, to use Point of Sale (PoS) machines have been installed in all ration shops.

Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura  are the state already providing portability of Public Distribution System (PDS) entitlements.

Since November 2016, the government is implementing the National Food Security Act, under which food grains are supplied every month at highly subsidised rates of Rs 1–3 per kg to over 80 crore people in the country.

77% of the ration shops across the country have PoS machines and more than 85% of people covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) have their ration cards linked to Aadhaar.
