1. HRD Minister launches Teachers Training Programme 'NISHTHA'
  • Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ launched the Integrated Teachers Training Programme, NISHTHA, National Initiative for School Head’s and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement, in New Delhi.
  • NISHTHA is the world’s largest teachers’ training programme of its kind in the world: Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal.
  • NISHTHA is the world’s largest teachers’ training programme to build capacities of 42 Lakh government teachers across the country
  • The basic objective of this massive training programme ‘NISHTHA’ is to motivate and equip teachers to encourage and foster critical thinking in students.
2. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba appointed Cabinet Secretary for 2 years
  • Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba was on Wednesday appointed as the next Cabinet Secretary for a tenure of two years.
  • His tenure will be effective from August 30, 2019, as per the official order. Gauba, a 1982-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre.
  • The order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training has stated that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had also approved his appointment as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat with immediate effect till he takes over as Cabinet Secretary from August 30.

3. Government appoints Ajay Kumar as new Defence Secretary
  • The Modi government appoints Senior bureaucrat Ajay Kumar the new Defence Secretary.
  • He will replace Sanjay Mitra whose term ends on August 23.
  • Ajay Kumar, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, is at present additional secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

  • Brij Kumar Agarwal, IAS (1985 batch) has been appointed Secretary to the Lokpal in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
  • Brij Kumar is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre.

5. Government appoints Subash Chandra as new Special Secretary, Department of Defence
  • Subash Chandra, IAS (of 1986 batch), Special Secretary, Department of Defence, is the new Secretary, Department of Defence Production. He will take over from Ajay Kumar, IAS (1985 batch).
  • Ajay Kumar, IAS (KL:85) upon his appointment as Secretary, Department of Defence, Ministry of Defence.

6. Prahlad Singh Patel to launch the book ‘The Diary of Manu Gandhi’ in New Delhi
  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel will launch the book ‘The Diary of Manu Gandhi’ (1943-44) at a function in the auditorium of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library on 22 August 2019 at 5.00 pm.
  • The book has been brought out by the National Archives of India, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in collaboration with Oxford University Press.
