Vice President to lead the Indian delegation to the XVIII NAM Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan

The Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will lead the Indian delegation at the XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held at Baku, Azerbaijan on 25-26 October. The Summit will be preceded by Senior Officials Meeting and Ministerial Meeting.

The theme for the XVIII NAM Summit is “Upholding the Bandung Principles to ensure concerted and adequate response to the challenges of contemporary world”. The Ten Principles of Bandung, a political statement encapsulating the need to promote world peace and cooperation were formulated at the Asian-African Conference in 1955.

The theme is significant as it relates to the forthcoming 65th anniversary of Bandung Principles in 2020 and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Movement in 2021. 

India is one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which was established in 1961 with 29 members. It has since grown to 120 members to become one of the largest groupings of nation-states.

The Summit will focus on a whole gamut of contemporary issues such as Terrorism, threats to peace and security, UN reform, climate change, sustainable development, economic governance and south-south cooperation.


Union Cabinet approves BSNL and MTNL to be merged, 15000 crore to be given in revival plan

The Union Cabinet approved the proposal for revival of BSNL and MTNL by administrative allotment of spectrum for 4G services, debt restructuring by raising of bonds with sovereign guarantee, reducing employee costs, monetisation of assets and in-principle approval of merger of BSNL & MTNL.

BSNL and MTNL will also raise long-term bonds of Rs 15,000 Cr for which sovereign guarantee will be provided by the Government of India (GoI).

Administrative allotment of spectrum for 4G services to BSNL and MTNL so as to enable these PSUs to provide broadband and other data services.

Cabinet approves proposal for Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation between India and USA


The Agreement will open a new chapter in bilateral relations as both sides will leverage complementary strengths spurred by a significant convergence of mutual interests in science and technology.

Cabinet approves administrative arrangements on Cooperation between Railways and European Commission

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved administrative arrangement on Cooperation in the field of Railways between the Ministry of Railways, India and the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission to strengthen future technical exchanges and cooperation.

  The Administrative arrangement has been signed on 3rd September, 2019.

This Administrative Arrangement will provide a framework of cooperation for focused approved in following key areas:-

  • Rail Reform and Regulations with particular emphasis on the impact of EU legislative framework on safety, interoperability, economic governance and financial sustainability of Railways;
  • Railway Safety;
  • The benefits of standardisation as well as harmonized conformity assessment and procurement procedures for economic performance of Railways;

Cabinet approves MoU between India and Kuwait in the field of accounting, finance and audit knowledge base


This MoU entails working together of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Kuwait Accountants and Auditors Association (KAAA) will work together to hold and conduct technical events, seminars and conferences in Kuwait for the benefit of both organizations’ members and development of their professional expertise. Costs will be shared as agreed in writing by both parties for each event.
