1. J.P.S. Chawla assumes charge as new Controller General of Accounts
  • J.P.S. Chawla assumed charge as the new Controller General of Accounts, Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, in New Delhi.
  • Government of India has appointed J. P. S. Chawla, 1985-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure with effect from October 15, 2019 on regular basis. J. P. S. Chawla has however been officiating as CGA with effect from September 1, 2019.

2. Harsh Vardhan launches Food Safety Mitra (FSM) scheme for scaling up ‘Eat Right India’ movement
  • On 16th Oct. the occasion of World Food Day, The theme for this day was ‘Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World’. To mark the occasion, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan also launched the ‘Food Safety Mitra (FSM)’ scheme, along with the ‘Eat Right Jacket’, and ‘Eat Right Jhola’ to strengthen food safety administration and scale up the ‘Eat Right India’ movement.
  • The initiative is aimed at scaling up the government's 'Eat Right India' movement.

3. HRD Minister chairs the 2nd meeting of IIIT Coordination Forum
  • Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ chaired the 2nd meeting of the IIIT Coordination Forum in New Delhi. Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) Coordination Forum is the apex body for deciding policy and directions for 20 IIITs established under PPP mode. 
  • These IIITs are partially supported by Government.They are required to become self sufficient in a short span of time.

4. P. C. Sharma takes charge as Member (Materials Management), Railway Board
  • P.C. Sharma has taken over as Member (Material Management), Railway Board and ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of India on 11th October, 2019.
  • Prior to this, Sharma worked as General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata from 20th September 2018 to 10th October, 2019. 
  • He is an Indian Railways Stores Services (IRSS) officer of 1981 batch.

5. RBI imposes Rs 3 crore penalty on SBM Bank
  • The Reserve Bank imposed a Rs 3 crore penalty on SBM Bank (India) for non-compliance of regulatory norms by SBM Bank (Mauritius), which amalgamated with the former in November 2018.
  • According to the RBI official statement, "The penalty has been imposed for non-compliance by SBM Bank (Mauritius) with certain provisions of directions issued by the central bank on 'Time-bound implementation and strengthening of SWIFT - related operational controls' and 'Cyber Security Framework in Banks".

6. Arjun Munda launches Van Dhan Internship Programme of TRIFED
  • Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs launched the “Van Dhan Internship Programme” organised by TRIFED under Ministry of Tribal Affairs here today. Shri Pravin Krishna, MD, TRIFED was present on the occasion.

7. Textiles Secretary Ravi Capoor Inaugurates IHGF-Delhi Fair
  • Textiles Secretary, Ravi Capoor, inaugurated the 48th edition of the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) at the India Expo Centre & Mart at Greater Noida. Overseas Buyers from 110 countries are in India to source home, lifestyle, fashion, furniture and textiles products from around 3200 Indian exhibitors who are participating in the Fair that will be on from 16 – 20 October 2019.
