1. Henley Passport Index 2020: India ranked 84th, Japan tops spot on the Index
  • Henley Passport Index 2020: According to the latest report released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Henley & Partners, Indian passport has been ranked 84th in the list of world's most powerful passports. 
  • Indian passport got a score of 58, which means Indian passport holders can visit 58 countries without prior visa.


2. Amit Shah inaugurates Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) in New Delhi
  • Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, inaugurated the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and also dedicated National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to the Nation. This state-of-the-art Centre is located in New Delhi.
  • The scheme to setup I4C was approved in October 2018 at an estimated cost of Rs. 415.86 crore, to deal with all types of cybercrimes in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.


3. 23rd National Youth Festival-2020 to be organized from 12th to 16th January, 2020
  • Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and State Government of Uttar Pradesh are jointly organizing 23rd National Youth Festival (NYF) 2020 at Indira Pratishthan, Lucknow from 12th to 16th January, 2020. Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports, Kiren Rijiju will inaugurate the NYF 2020 on 12th January on the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the great Youth icon.
  • The theme of the 23rd National Youth Festival 2020 is ‘FIT YOUTH FIT INDIA’.


4. Union Power Minister releases State Energy Efficiency Index 2019
  • Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New & Renewable Energy released the ‘State Energy Efficiency Index 2019’ in New Delhi, which tracks the progress of Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives in 36 states and union territories based on 97 significant indicators.
  • The index is developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in association with Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE).


5. CSIR partners to launch the Nature India Essay Competition 2020
  • The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and Nature India launched the Nature India essay competition 2020 to provide young and experienced scientists, researchers and authors in India, a platform to share ideas on how societally-impactful science can advance and strengthen the country.
  • The Nature India essay competition is open for readers aged 25 to 50. The essayists will have an opportunity to draft a compelling narrative with personal anecdotes, emotion and a science-backed story that may become potentially historic in helping shape the roadmap for India’s scientific future.

  • Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2020: Embassy of India in Beijing celebrated the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas on 9th January 2020.
  • Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was started in 2003 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to connect with migrants settled around the world. Mahatma Gandhi returned home from South Africa on January 9, so Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on January 9.
