1. Indian Army Day 2020: Indian Army Day 2020 Celebrations
  • Indian Army Day 2020: India is celebrating its 72nd Army Day. The Army Day is celebrated every year at all Army Command headquarters to honour the country's soldiers.
  • On the same day in 1949 Lt Gen K M Carriappa took over as commander-in-chief of the Indian Army in 1949 from General Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.


2. M S Swaminathan presented with ‘Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu National Award’ for his contribution to agriculture
  • Eminent Agricultural Scientist Dr M S Swaminathan was presented the ‘MuppavarapuVenkaiah Naidu National Award for Excellence’ for his distinguished contribution to the field of agriculture.
  • The Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu presented him the award during the Pongal Celebrations held at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.


3. From January 2021, jewellers sell only 14, 18 and 22 carat gold jewelry
  • The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan informed, jewellers can sell only hallmarked jewellery and artifacts made of 14, 18 and 22 carat gold from January 15, 2021 and violation of this will attract penalty and imprisonment of one year.

7. Indian Railways to provide Content on Demand Service (CoD) on Trains and Stations
  • Content on Demand (CoD) will soon be available in all Premium/Express/Mail trains and Suburban trains of Indian Railways. With an aim to generate more non fare revenue, Railway Board had entrusted RailTel, a miniratna PSU under Ministry of Railways, with providing the Content on Demand service to passengers in trains.


8. SCR of Indian Railways and SBI sign MoU for Doorstep Banking covering all 585 Stations of the Zone
  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between South Central Zone of Indian Railways and State Bank of India for Doorstep Banking for direct pickup of earnings covering all 585 Railway stations over SCR Zone.
  • The direct pick up of cash from all the railway stations on SCR as per the MoU dispenses with the tedious and complex activity of movement of cash earnings through “Cash Safes” by trains.
