1. India achieves complete phase out of one the most potent ozone depleting chemical
  • India has successfully achieved the complete phase out of Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-141 b, which is a chemical used by foam manufacturing enterprises and one of the most potent ozone depleting chemical after Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
  • (HCFC)-141 b is used mainly as a blowing agent in the production of rigid polyurethane (PU) foams.


2. 3rd Apex Conference of Smart City CEOs on 24-25 January, 2020
  • The 3rd Apex Conference of the Smart Cities is being organized on 24th-25th January, 2020 at Andhra University Convention Center, Beach Road, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The progress of implementation of projects under the Smart Cities Mission has seen tremendous growth. The value of tendered smart city projects is over Rs. 1,62,000 crores, the value of work orders issued is around Rs. 1,20,000 crores and the value of all completed projects is more than Rs 25,000 crores.


3. Indian Oil Signs MoU with National Petroleum Authority of Ghana for Assistance in the Implementation of Ghana’s National LPG Promotion Policy
  • Implementation of Ghana’s National LPG Promotion Policy India and Ghana, Indian Oil has signed a MoU with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana for providing its assistance and technical expertise in the implementation of Ghana’s National LPG Promotion Policy. With India’s emergence as a world leader in provision of clean energy to its citizens by the expansion of its LPG network, Ghana sought assistance from India in its own efforts to promote safe, clean and environmentally friendly LPG for increased domestic, commercial and industrial usage.


4. Cabinet approves agreement between India and Brazil on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Agreement between the Republic of India and the Federative Republic of Brazil on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters has to be signed.
  • The Agreement aims to enhance effectiveness of both the countries in investigation and prosecution of crime through cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.


5. Cabinet approves MoU between India and Brazil for cooperation in the oil and natural gas sector
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Republic of India and Federative Republic of Brazil on cooperation in the field of oil and natural gas.
  • The MoU will enhance cooperation between the two sides in oil and natural gas sector. Under the MoU, both sides will work towards establishing cooperation in the E&P initiatives in Brazil and India.


6. Cabinet approves signing of MoU between Brazil and India for bilateral cooperation in the field of early childhood
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation between the Ministry of Citizenship of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Ministry of Women & Child Development of the Republic of India for bilateral cooperation in the field of early childhoods.
  • It will strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries and increase bilateral cooperation on the issues of early childhood care.


7. Cabinet approves MoU between India and Brazil on Cooperation in field of Geology and Mineral Resources
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed between Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines of the Republic of India and Geological Survey of Brazil – CPRM, Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Federative Republic of Brazil on “Cooperation in field of Geology and Mineral Resources”.


8. Cabinet approves Revised Cost Estimates for establishment of permanent campus of new NITs
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Revised Cost Estimates (RCE) for establishment of permanent campuses of new National Institutes of Technology (NITs), at a total cost of Rs.4371.90 crore for the period till 2021 - 2022.
  • These NITs were established in the year 2009 and started functioning from academic year 2010-2011 in their respective temporary campus with very limited space and infrastructure.
