1. 2nd National GST Conference held in New Delhi for streamlining GST system
  • The 2nd National GST Conference of the Commissioners of State Tax and Chief Commissioners of Central Tax was held in New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Revenue Secretary, Ministry of Finance.
  • The Conference was focused on brainstorming session for streamlining Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and plugging revenue leakages. 
  • This was the 2nd edition of all India Conference where both tax administrations came together formally to build synergy and to share their knowledge and best practices with intent to bring about uniformity in tax administrations.

  • Home Minister Amit Shah releases a book ‘Karmayoddha Granth’, on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

3. IBBI amends the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Liquidation Process) Regulations, 2016
  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) notified the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Liquidation Process) (Amendment) Regulations, 2020 on 6th January 2020.
  • The amendment clarifies that a person, who is not eligible under the Code to submit a resolution plan for insolvency resolution of the corporate debtor, shall not be a party in any manner to a compromise or arrangement of the corporate debtor under section 230 of the Companies Act, 2013.


4. 1st Advance Estimates of National Income, 2019-20
  • The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the First Advance Estimates of National Income at both Constant (2011-12) and Current Prices, for the financial year 2019-20 along with the corresponding estimates of expenditure components of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
  • The First Advance Estimates of GDP have been released in accordance with the release calendar of National Accounts. The approach for compiling the Advance Estimates is based on Benchmark-Indicator method.


5. President Kovind Lays Foundation Stone of Super Specialty Hospital in Kavaratti
  • The President of India Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Lakshadweep this morning for his first ever State Visit to the Union Territory.
  • President was received at Kavaratti by Administrator of Lakshadweep Dineshwar Sharma along with others. He was accorded a Guard of Honour and received a traditional welcome at Kavaratti.
  • The President later attended a public reception where he laid the foundation stone of a super specialty hospital.


6. Nirbhaya Case: Delhi court issues death warrant to four convicts
  • Delhi Court issues death warrant against all four convicts in Nirbhaya Gangrape case. Patiala House Court on Tuesday at 4:48 pm issued a death warrant for the four convicts in the case. 
  • Accordingly, the culprits of Nirbhaya will be hanged in Tihar Jail on January 22 at 7 am. Following this decision, the surveillance of the culprits in Tihar has been increased.


7. Minister Prakash Javadekar confers First Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman to 30 media houses
  • The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar, today conferred the First Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas to 30 media organizations, at an event in National Media Centre, New Delhi.
  • Awards are a recognition of media organizations working in mission mode for the larger benefit of society.


8. Bangladesh court orders government to ban single-use plastics in hotels and restaurants
  • The Bangladesh High Court ordered the government to impose a ban on single use plastic in coastal areas and hotels and restaurants across the country within the next one year. 
  • As per the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act polythene has been banned in the country since 2002 but its use is continuing all over Bangladesh.


9. Union Government offers imported Onions to State Governments at Rs. 49 to 58 per kg
  • The Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswanheld a press conference today to brief media about the overall availability and prices of Onions across the nation along with the imported quantities so far.
  • Minister Paswan said that the Union Government has decided to offer Onions to State Governments at the landing price in Mumbai ranging from Rs. 49 to Rs. 58 per Kilogram.


10. India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I: India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to take Series lead
  • India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I: India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series in Indore.
