1. Celebration of Janaushadhi Week from 1st to 7th March
  • Janaushadhi week is being celebrated across the country from 1st March to 7th March 2020. On this occasion various activities like health checkup Camp, Jan Aushadhi Paricharcha, Jan Aushadhi ka sath are being undertaken.
  • During the week, blood pressure check-up, sugar level checkup, free doctor consultation and free medicine distribution are being hosted at various Jan Aushadhi Kendras. General public who visited these health camps were also informed and educated about the price benefits and quality of the medicines being sold at Jan Aushadhi Kendras.


2. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla launched ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyan’ to create malnutrition-free India in Kota, Rajasthan
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has launched ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyan’ in Kota, Rajasthan, to provide nutritional support to pregnant women and adolescent girls. 
  • ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyan’ aim of the campaign is to preserve & maintain the health of our future generations.
  • Union Cabinet Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Irani also presided over the function.
  • In the first phase of the campaign, 1,000 kits of 17 kg balanced diet each were provided to 1,000 pregnant women.


3. Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal was honoured with prestigious Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee award for politics
  • Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was presented the prestigious Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee award 2020 for Politics at the 6th India Ideas Conclave in Gujarat.
  • The award is instituted by India Foundation & Indic Academy, & presented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Speaker of People’s Majlis of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed.


4. 4.39 lakh candidates trained under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalaya Yojana in 2 years
  • Under the DDU-GKY scheme, 4.39 lakh candidates have been trained during 2018-19 and 2019-20, of which 84156 candidates belong to Scheduled Tribes. Under the PMKVY 2016-20, 49.67 lakh candidates have been trained during the 2018-19 and 2019-20, of which 2.13 lakh candidates belong to Scheduled Tribes.


5. Fitch cuts India’s economic growth forecast for FY20 to 4.9% from 5.1%
  • The American credit rating agency, Fitch Ratings has cut India’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth forecast to 4.9% from 5.1% for the fiscal year FY20 (2019-2020) ending March 31, 2020.
  • India's GDP growth is forecast to recover slightly to 5.4 per cent in 2020-21 (April 2020 to March 2021).


6. Establishment of Defence Corridors at Tamil Nadu
  • In pursuance to the Union Budget announcement (2018-19), it has been decided to set up two Defence Industrial Corridors in the Country, one in Uttar Pradesh and another in Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, five nodes for Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor, viz. Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem and Tiruchirapalli have been identified. Investments of approximately Rs. 3100 crore were announced by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB)/Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSUs) & Private Industries in Tamil Nadu Corridor.


7. Pekka Lundmark appointed President and CEO of Nokia
  • Nokia appointed Pekka Lundmark as President and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and he will take charge from September 1, 2020. He will be the successor of Rajeev Suri.
  • Rajeev Suri to step down after more than a decade as President and CEO of Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks.
  • Lundmark is currently President and CEO of Fortum, a leading energy company based in Espoo, Finland.
