1. Cabinet approves Rs. 15,000 Crore for India COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved significant investments to the tune of Rs. 15,000 crore for 'India COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package'. 
  • The funds sanctioned will be utilized in 3 Phases and for immediate COVID-19 Emergency Response (an amount of Rs. 7,774 Crore) has been provisioned and rest for medium-term support (1-4 years) to be provided under mission mode approach.


2. Amit Shah interacts with Doctors and Senior representatives of IMA; assures them of their Security in the fight against COVID-19
  • Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harshvardhan interacted with doctors and senior representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), through a video conference, in New Delhi.
  • Allaying all concerns of the medical fraternity regarding their security in the fight against Coronavirus, the Home Minister has assured them that the Modi government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring their wellbeing and security.


3. Facebook to invest ₹ 40000 crore for 10% stake in Jio
  • Social media major Facebook will invest $ 5.7 billion (Rs 43,574) crore into Jio Platforms, a unit of Reliance Industries led by Mukesh Ambani for a 9.99% stake.
  • The investment will value Jio Platforms - a digital apps platform - at Rs 4.62 lakh crore.


4. Central govt to conduct telephonic survey to assess COVID-19 prevalence
  • The Central government will  conduct a telephonic survey to  gather feedback from people on prevalence and distribution of COVID-19 symptoms.
  • The Citizens will get calls on  their mobile phones by NIC and number 1921.


5. Pune’s mobile App Saiyam tracks Home Quarantined Citizens: Step-by-Step Details
  • In order to effectively track the home-quarantines citizens and ensure they are actually staying in the home, a mobile application named Saiyam has been developed by the Pune Municipal Corporation under Smart Cities Mission (SCM).
  • City administration has taken administrative measures complemented by technology solutions to monitor home quarantined citizens. The city administration has appointed dedicated teams for five zones to conduct a follow-up with people under home quarantine on a daily basis.


6. Harsh Vardhan launches ‘COVID India Seva’, an interactive platform for citizen awareness on COVID-19
  • Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan launched the COVID India Seva, which provided an interactive platform to establish a direct channel of communication with millions of Indians amid the pandemic.
  • This initiative is aimed at enabling transparent e-governance delivery in real-time and answering citizen queries swiftly, at scale, especially in crisis situations like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


7. RBI asks banks to extend all benefits announced by govt pertaining to short-term crop loans to farmers
  • The Reserve Bank of India has asked banks to extend the benefit of interest subvention (IS) and prompt repayment incentive (PRI) for short-term crop loans to farmers till 31st May, 2020.


8. Government exempts additional Agricultural and Forestry items, Shops of Educational Books for Students and Shops of Electric Fans from Lockdown Restrictions to fight COVID19
  • Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order to exempt certain activities under the consolidated revised guidelines regarding the Nationwide lockdown to fight COVID-19.
  • Within the above mentioned consolidated revised guidelines, Government has exempted additional agricultural and forestry items, shops of educational books for students and shops of electric fans from lockdown restrictions to fight COVID19.


9. Narendra Singh Tomar participates in the G-20 Extraordinary Agriculture Ministers Virtual Meeting
  • Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar participated in an Extraordinary virtual meeting of G-20 Agriculture Ministers today to address the issue of COVID-19 impacts on food security, safety and nutrition.
  • He shared the decision of Government of India to exempt all agriculture operations during lockdown period and ensuring continued availability of essential agriculture produce and supply, while adhering to protocol of social distancing, health and hygiene. 


10. Ministry of Tourism holds its 5th webinar on the rich heritage of Ladakh under DekhoApnaDesh Webinar Series
  • To generate awareness about and promote various tourism destinations of India, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the “DekhoApnaDesh” webinar series which  provide information on the rich culture and heritage of the country and share the depth and expanse of the destinations in India.
  • As part of the ongoing series, the Ministry of Tourism conducted its 5th webinar on the rich heritage of Ladakh titled “Ladakh: Explore the Unexplored” on 20th April 2020.
