PM Modi announces assistance of Rs 1,000 cr to West Bengal, Rs 500 cr to Odisha for relief, rehabilitation in Amphan cyclone: Highlights with Details

PM Modi announces assistance of Rs 1, 000 cr to West Bengal, Rs 500 cr to Odisha: The Centre will provide 1,000 crore rupees advance financial assistance to West Bengal for post-Amphan restoration work. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this at Bashirhat in North 24 Paraganas District of West Bengal after an administrative meeting to assess the extent of damages caused by the supper cyclonic storm.

Prime Minister also announced two lakh rupees compensation to the families of the each victims killed in the storm-related incidents. He also informed that a Central team will also arrive in the state soon to assess the damages. PM Modi announces assistance of Rs 500 cr to Odisha for relief, rehabilitation in Amphan cyclone Highlights with Details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced an advance financial assistance of Rs 500 crore for cyclone-battered Odisha. The Prime Minister made the announcement after an aerial survey of areas hit by cyclone 'Amphan'. After the aerial survey, he held a review meeting with Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Indian Railways to operationalise 2600 More Shramik Special Trains in next 10 days 

Ministry of Railways has decided to operationalise 2600 more Shramik Special Trains in next ten days across the country as per the needs of State Governments.This initiative is expected to benefit 36 lakh stranded passengers across the country.

It may be noted that Indian Railways started running “Shramik Special” trains from 01 May 2020, to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lock down. These special trains are being run from point to point on the request of both the concerned State Governments as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons. The Railways and State Governments have appointed senior officials as Nodal Officers for coordination and smooth operation of these “Shramik Specials”. 

Indian Railways has run 2600 Shramik Special Trains in last 23 days Around 36 lakhs stranded migrants have been transported till now to their home States.

It is to be noted that apart from Shramik Special Trains, Ministry of Railways has started 15 pairs of Special Trains wef. 12.05.2020 and announced 200 train services to be started from wef 01st June, 2020.


Health Minister Harsh Vardhan takes charge as chairman of WHO Executive Board

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan today took over as the chairman of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Executive Board. The Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan has been elected as Chair of the Executive Board of World Health Organization (WHO) for the year 2020-21. This took place during the 147th session of the Executive Board, in a meeting that was virtually held. He has replaced Dr Hiroki Nakatani of Japan.

Accepting the Chair of the Executive Board, Dr Harsh Vardhan paid tribute to the lakhs of people who have lost their lives due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. He requested all dignitaries present on the ocassionto give a standing ovation to all the frontline health workers and other COVID Warriors by saluting their dignity, determination and dedication.


Dr Harsh Vardhan also shared India’s experience of combating COVID-19. He noted that “We have a mortality of 3 per cent only. In a country of 1.35 billion, there are only 0.1 million cases of COVID19. The recovery rate is above 40 per cent and the doubling rate is 13 days.”

Dr Harsh Vardhan has also been a member of several prestigious committees of WHO like Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) and the Global Technical Consultative Group (TCG) on Polio Eradication. He has also served as an Advisor to the WHO.


10 additional NDRF teams deployed in West Bengal for post cyclone Amphan management

On receipt of written request from Principal Secretary Disaster Management and Civil Defence , Government of West Bengal for deployment of additional teams, ten additional NDRF teams have been mobilized and are being rushed at the earliest from NDRF locations outside West Bengal. Teams are likely to reach Kolkata by late night today.

Presently 26 NDRF teams are deployed in cyclone affected areas of West Bengal for restoration work. The additional deployment of 10 teams will bring the total deployment to 36 teams of NDRF across the 6 districts of West Bengal affected by Cyclone Amphan.


ICSE remaining Class 10th, 12th Board exams to be conducted from 1st-14th July

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, CISCE has announced that it will conduct pending Class 10 and 12 exams, which were postponed due to the Corona virus-induced nationwide lockdown, from 1st to 14th of July.


CISCE Chief Executive and Secretary Gerry Arathoon said, while the exams for Class 12 students will be held from 2nd to 12th July, Class 10 students will appear for exams from 1st to 14th July. He asked schools to ensure social distancing is followed and directed candidates to carry hand sanitizers and wear face masks.
