Five more States/UTs board One Nation One Ration Card national portability platform, taking the total to 17: Highlights with Details

The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Ram Vilas Paswan approved the integration of 5 States and Union Territories, - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu - with the National Cluster under the “One Nation One Ration Card” plan. Twelve States are already onboard the National Cluster, namely - Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura. Reviewing the progress of the implementation of National Portability of ration card holders under the “One Nation One Ration Card” plan, Shri Paswan took note of the requisite technical readiness of these 5 new States/UT with the National Cluster.

With this, the facility of national/inter-State portability will be available for nearly 60 Crore NFSA beneficiaries of 17 States/UT and they may lift their entitled quota of foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop (FPS) of their choice, anywhere in these 17 States/UT by using their same/existing ration card under ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ plan........Read More


Govt extends nationwide lockdown till May 17, Relaxations in Green Zones, restrictions to continue in Red Zones: Highlights with Details

The Centre government decided to extend the ongoing lockdown by two weeks from 4th of this month. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to further extend the lockdown. 

According to the Home Ministry, the decision has been taken after a comprehensive review of the COVID-19 situation.

The Ministry also issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into Red, Green and Orange Zones. The guidelines have permitted considerable relaxations in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones.

The Green Zones will be districts with either zero confirmed cases till date; or no confirmed case in the last 21 days.  The classification of districts as Red Zones will take into account the total number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases, extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts. Those districts, which are neither defined as Red nor Green, shall be classified as Orange zones.........Read More



Ajay Tirkey assumes charge as Secretary, Ministry of Women & Child Development (WCD)

Ajay Tirkey today assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) in New Delhi. He is 1987 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. He succeeds Shri Rabindra Panwar who retired on superannuation yesterday.

Before assuming the charge of Secretary, Shri Ajay Tirkey was holding the post of Special Secretary in the same Ministry.

He worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in the year 2017 before joining as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women & Child Development.

He has also been on deputation to the Ministry of Defence as Director and Joint Secretary from 2004 to 2009.



Giridhar Aramane assumes charge as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

Giridhar Aramane today assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. He held briefing meetings with senior officers to review the work of the Ministry and discussed pressing issues especially in the light of the impact of COVID -19 pandemic. Shri Aramane emphasised that Transport and Highways sector is the backbone of Indian economy.

Aramane was earlier serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also been a Jt Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas during 2012-14.



Arvind Kumar Sharma Assumes Charge as Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)

Arvind Kumar Sharma (IAS) today assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Starting the work on war footing, he held a important meetings with senior officers to review the work of the Ministry and discussed pressing issues especially in the light of the impact of COVID -19 pandemic. 

Sharma has emphasized that MSMEs sector is very crucial for the society and the economy. Laying out his priorities, he has emphasized that after we have dealt with the urgent situation, we need to work on creating Global Champion companies from MSMEs.



Railways start Shramik Special Trains to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students at different places due to lock down: Key Highlights

As per the guideline issued by Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been decided to run “Shramik Special” trains from “Labour Day” today, to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lock down.

These special trains will be run from point to point on the request of both the concerned State Governments as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons. The Railways and State Governments shall appoint senior officials as Nodal Officers for coordination and smooth operation of these “Shramik Specials”.



Government hikes MSP for minor forest produce of 49 items: Highlights with Details

Government has raised the minimum support price for Minor Forest Produce of 49 items in view of circumstances arising out of Covid 19.

According to the Tribal Affairs Ministry, the increase across various items of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) ranges from 16 per cent to 66 per cent.

The increase is expected to provide an immediate and much needed momentum to procurement of Minor Tribal Produce in atleast 20 States.

The Ministry said that the MSP for Minor Forest Produces is revised once in every three years by the Pricing Cell constituted under the Ministry.



200 new mandis from seven states join e-NAM for marketing of agricultural produce

Two hundred new mandis from seven states joined the e-NAM platform for marketing of Agricultural produce.

They include 94 Mandis of Rajasthan, 27 Mandis of Tamil Nadu, 25 Mandis each from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, 16 Mandis of Odisha, 11 Mandis of Andhra Pradesh and two Mandis of Karnataka.

This will bring the total number of e-NAM mandis in the country to 785.

Legendary footballer Chuni Goswami passes away at 82

Legendary Footballer Chuni Goswami died in Kolkata on Thursday afternoon after prolonged illness. He was 82. 

Chuni Goswami was the captain of the gold medal winning Indian football team of Jakarta Asiad held in 1962. He was awarded Arjun, Padmasree and several others prestigious awards for his outstanding contributions in the field of Sports.
