1. Hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr passes away at 95 in Mohali Punjab: Highlights with Details 
  • Balbir Singh Senior, the three-time Olympic gold medal-winning hockey legend died in a private hospital at Mohali, Punjab today morning. He was 95 and is survived by his daughter Sushbir and three sons Kanwalbir, Karanbir, Gurbir.
  • The iconic player Balbir Singh Sr was admitted to Fortis Hospital at Mohali on May 8 and he was in a semi-comatose state since May 18 and had developed a blood clot in his brain after being first admitted to the hospital for bronchial pneumonia with high fever.


2. Govt to restart regional air connectivity services under UDAN scheme: Highlights with Details
  • Civil Aviation Ministry has decided to restart the regional air connectivity services under the UDAN scheme. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that preference will however be given to flights connecting North-East region, hill states, islands and other short haul routes. In a tweet, he said that the flights will be augmented under the scheme in a calibrated manner.
  • Civil Aviation ministry has said that all operational routes up to 500 km stage length, all operational helicopter routes and routes with no viability gap funding will be permitted to resume operations.


3. Indian Railways operationalises 3060 “Shramik Special” trains till 25th May, 2020 (till 10:00 hrs) across the country
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs order regarding movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places by special trains, Indian Railways had decided to operate “Shramik Special” trains form 1st May 2020.
  • As on 25th May 2020 (till 10:00 hrs), a total of 3060 “Shramik Special” trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. More than 40 lacs passengers have reached their destinations by these “Shramik Special” trains.
  • Out of 3060 Shramik Special Trains, 2608 trains have been terminated, 453 trains are on run. On 24.05.2020, 237 Shramik Specials were run moving 3.1 lakh passengers.


4. Government is exploring new financial lending institutions to support small-scale units - Nitin Gadkari
  • Union Minister for MSME and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said that the government is exploring new financial lending institutions to support small-scale units in terms of financial support. Union Minister Gadkari said that government is working towards strengthening the NBFCs which will help small businesses to avail easy credit in the coming time.
  • He was speaking at a meeting via video conferencing with the Members of Calcutta Chamber of Commerce on impact of COVID-19 on MSMEs and the measures taken to address the challenges at hand. 4. 


5. IAF to launch its squadron Number-18 - Flying Bullets with a fleet of LCA Tejas at its Sulur base near Coimbatore
  • The Indian Air Force is set to operationalize its squadron called the Number-18 - Flying Bullets with a fleet of the Light Combat Aircraft, LCA Tejas at its Sulur base near Coimbatore. It will be launched by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria on Wednesday.


6. Centre reviews progress of relief and restoration work in West Bengal
  • Continuing the coordination efforts and restoration measures in the areas of West Bengal affected by cyclone Amphan, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gaubamet again for the fifth time.
  • As announced by Prime Minister after his aerial survey and review of relief efforts with the West Bengal Government, a sum of Rs. 1,000 crores has already been released to the State government.

  • R. K. Singh, the Union Minister of Power, reviewed the progress of restoration of power systems post AMPHAN cyclone in West Bengal and Odisha with Additional Chief Secretary Power, West Bengal; Principal Secretary, Power, Odisha; CMDs of various DISCOMS; Secretary Power, GoI; Additional Secretary, Power, GoI; CMD, Power Grid, and other senior officials via video-conferencing.

  • Rajya Sabha Chairman, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a meeting to review the preparedness for regular meetings of Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committees.

  • In a telephonic conversation today with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Modi conveyed greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr to the Government and people of the UAE.
  • The leaders expressed satisfaction about the effective cooperation between the two countries during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Prime Minister Modi thanked the Crown Prince for the support extended to Indian citizens in UAE.


10. CBSE to conduct pending Board exams for Class 10th and12th at nearly 15,000 exam centres across country
  • The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE has now decided to conduct the pending Class 10th and Class 12th Board exams at nearly 15,000 examination centres across the country.
  • Human Resource Development Minister (HRD) Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank informed about it in a tweet. The exams will be held from 1st to 15th of July.
  • Earlier, the CBSE had decided to hold the exams at only 3,000 centres.The decision to increase the number of centres will ensure physical distancing and to minimize travel for students.


11. Telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone today with Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Modi conveyed greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh.
  • The two leaders shared their assessment of the damage caused by Cyclone Amphan in both countries. The leaders also discussed the COVID pandemic situation and the ongoing collaboration between the two countries in this regard. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s support to Bangladesh in addressing these challenges.
