1. RAISE 2020 - Mega Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence to be held from October 5-9: Quick Highlights
  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and NITI Aayog will organize a Mega Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI), RAISE 2020- ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020,’ from October 5-9, 2020. 
  • RAISE 2020 will be a global meeting of minds to exchange ideas and chart a course for using AI for social transformation, inclusion and empowerment in areas like Healthcare, Agriculture, Education and Smart Mobility, among other sectors.
  • RAISE 2020 - Keynote speeches and panel discussions will frame the summit, on cross-sector subjects like ‘Leveraging AI for Pandemic Preparedness’, ‘The Impetus that Innovation Places on Digitisation’, ‘Inclusive AI’, ‘Partnerships for Successful Innovation’ etc.


2. India, Sri Lanka to hold Virtual Bilateral Summit on 26th September 2020: Highlights with Details
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka will hold a Virtual Bilateral Summit on Saturday 26th September 2020.
  • The Virtual Bilateral Summit will give an opportunity to the two leaders to comprehensively review the broad framework of the bilateral relationship soon after the Parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka and in the context of the time-tested friendly ties between the two countries.


3. AYUSH Ministry inks MoU with Industry Bodies to promote Medicinal Plants cultivation
  • In a historic event today, the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH signed an MoU through virtual meeting with the major AYUSH and Herbal industry bodies covering a set of measures to promote medicinal plant cultivation.
  • The industry bodies which signed the MoU include ADMA (Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturer’s Association), Mumbai; AMAM (Association for Manufactures of Ayurvedic Medicines), New Delhi; AMMOI (Ayurvedic Medicines Manufacturers Organization of India), Thrissur; AHNMI (Association for Herbal and Nutraceutical Manufacturers of India), Mumbai; FICCI (Federation of Indian Industries), New Delhi and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), New Delhi. 


4. Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and Secretary to the Govt. of India, Dr. Sekhar Basu passes away 
  • Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and Secretary to the Govt. of India, Dr. Sekhar Basu passed away, (24 September 2020) at a hospital in Kolkata. Dr. Basu was undergoing treatment for COVID-19.
  • Dr. Basu was Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) from October 2015 to September 2018. Prior to his assumption of charge as Secretary, DAE, he was holding the position of Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) from June 2012 to October 2015. 
  • Earlier he worked as Project Director of Nuclear Submarine Programme and later as the Chief Executive of the Nuclear Recycle Board in the same institute. Dr.Basu, a dynamic engineer of exceptional abilities, played major role in establishing India as a lead country in various domains of nuclear science and engineering. 


5. Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches “Centralized Farm Machinery Performance Testing Portal” in the Public Domain
  • Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar today launched in the public domain, the “Centralized Farm Machinery Performance Testing Portal” which has been developed by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare as a further step to improve services of farm machinery testing institutions and bringing out transparency in the entire process of testing and evaluation of machines.
  • This portal will facilitate manufacturers in applying, communicating and monitoring the progress of testing of their machines in a seamless manner as it is easily accessible from any location and from any device connected to the Internet.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Age Appropriate Fitness Protocols on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Fit India Movement, via virtual conferencing.
  • Shri Modi interacted with various sports persons, fitness experts and others during the Fit India Dialogue event organised on the occasion.

  • Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launches U-Rise Portal empowerment of youth and inaugurates mobile app of technical education department.
  • The Chief Minister said that the portal is an innovative concept which will provide all information related to admission, institute, fee, tuition, training, experimentation, examination and provides information on employment. 


8. 670 Electric buses sanctioned in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Chandigarh under Phase-2 of FAME India scheme
  • Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar has announced sanctioning of 670 Electric buses in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Chandigarh under Phase-2 of the FAME India scheme.
  • In a tweet, he also announced sanctioning of 241 Charging Stations in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat and Port Blair under it. He said, this is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to push for eco-friendly public transportation.


9. 21 AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres to be inaugurated in Jammu and Kashmir today
  • Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister for AYUSH and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State PMO will jointly launch the Post-Harvest Management Centre for Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah as well as 21 AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres in Jammu and Kashmir today. 
  • The inauguration will be done through a digital event. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary Ministry of AYUSH will also participate in the program.
