India successfully tests Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo: Highlights with Details 

Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO successfully test-fired SMART on Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo off Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.

According to the DRDO all the mission objectives including missile flight upto the range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, release of Torpedo and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM) have been met perfectly.

Harvey J Alter, Charles M Rice & Michael Houghton wins Nobel Prize in Medicine 2020 for discovery of Hepatitis C virus 

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2020: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2020 was awarded jointly to the Americans Harvey J Alter, Charles M Rice & British scientist Michael Houghton for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus.

This year’s Nobel Prize is awarded to three scientists who have made a decisive contribution to the fight against blood-borne hepatitis, a major global health problem that causes cirrhosis and liver cancer in people around the world.

The head of the Nobel Committee, Thomas Perlmann, announced the winners in Stockholm. The prestigious award comes with a gold medal and prize money of 10 million Swedish kronor (over $1,118,000), courtesy of a bequest left 124 years ago by the prize's creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel.......Read More


42nd GST Council recommends release of Rs 20,000 crore as compensation by Centre to States for revenue loss 

The 42nd GST Council met under the Chairmanship of Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman through video conferencing here today. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Thakur besides Finance Ministers of States & UTs and senior officers of the Ministry of Finance& States/ UTs.

The GST Council has made the following recommendations:

The Centre releases nearly 20 thousand crore rupees among the states from the amount collected as compensation cess this year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made the announcement on Monday after the 42nd GST Council meet.

Finance Minister informed that by next week the Centre will also disburse 25 thousand crore rupees towards Integrated GST for 2017-18 to those states that received less amount due to the anomalies.

The GST Council also recommended the extension of Levy of Compensation Cess beyond the transition period of five years which is beyond June, 2022, for such period as may be required to meet the revenue gap.


Harsh Vardhan chairs 5th Special Session of the WHO Executive Board 

Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare presided over the fifth special session of Bureau of the Executive Board as Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), virtually.

The agenda of the meet included focus on the measures necessary to ensure the full and effective implementation of the terms of resolution WHA 73.1 on COVID-19 response. 


India celebrating Wildlife week with RoaR Campaign

Indian Board of Wildlife was constituted in 1952; the wildlife day celebration started in 1955 and later upgraded to wildlife week celebration in 1957. 

The aims is to make people more aware of the conservation and protection of wildlife. This year the 66th Wildlife Week was celebrated with the theme RoaR (Roar and Revive) - Exploring Human-Animal Relationships, that aims at providing a platform to celebrate the special place of wild plants and animals in their many varied and beautiful forms.


Foreign Ministers of all four Quad countries- India, US, Japan, Australia to meet in Tokyo  

Foreign ministers of all four Quad countries will meet in the Japanese capital Tokyo today. External Affairs Ministry said, Foreign Ministers will discuss the post-COVID-19 international order and the need for a coordinated response to the various challenges emerging from the pandemic. 

Four ministers will also discuss regional issues and collectively affirm the importance of maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The foreign ministers of all four Quad countries - External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will be present for the face to face meeting, a first amid the COVID-19 pandemic.


12th BRICS Summit to be held virtually on November 17: Quick Highlights

The 12th BRICS Summit will be held on 17th November 2020 via video conference. The theme of the Meeting of the Leaders of BRICS countries which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is “BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Shared Security and Innovative Growth”.

The Summit this year is being held under the Chairmanship of Russia and aims at a multifaceted cooperation between the member countries.
