I. Nobel Peace Prize 2020 Awarded to World Food Programme for combating hunger
  1. Nobel Peace Prize 2020: The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP) “for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.”


II. RBI Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Statement - RBI keeps key interest rates unchanged
  1. The Reserve Bank of India in its bi-monthly Monetary Policy statement issued has maintained a status quo keeping the key interest rates unchanged.
  2. The reverse repo rate remains unchanged at 3.35 per cent, the repo rate at four per cent.


III. BRICS Bank approves funds for Delhi-Meerut rapid rail, Mumbai metro
  1. New Development Bank, also known as BRICS Bank has approved infrastructure projects worth 741 million dollars in India.
  2. In a press statement, the Shanghai based bank said that its Board of Directors approved a loan of USD 500 million for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Project and a loan of USD 241 million for Mumbai Metro Rail II (Line 6) Project.


IV. Indian visa services resume in Bangladesh
  1. The High Commission of India in Dhaka has announced resumption of visa services in several categories for Bangladeshi nationals.
  2. The High Commission announced that online visa application services for medical, business, employment, entry and journalist category has been resumed. The visa application process was suspended due to COVID 19 pandemic in March this year.
