I. First SCO Startup Forum to be launched on October 27, boost for Startup India
  1. The first-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Startup Forum will be launched on 27th October 2020 ahead of the SCO trade ministers meeting on 28th October.
  2. The forum will lay the foundation for multilateral cooperation and engagement among the SCO Member States to develop and hone their startup ecosystems, collectively.


II. India Successfully Test Fired BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile from Indian Navy’s Stealth Destroyer, INS Chennai
  1. BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile was successfully test fired today from Indian Navy’s indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai, hitting a target in the Arabian Sea. The missile hit the target successfully with pin-point accuracy after performing high-level and extremely complex manoeuvres.
  2. BrahMos as ‘prime strike weapon’ will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of Indian Navy. 
  3. The highly versatile BrahMos has been jointly designed, developed and produced by India and Russia.


III. Indian Navy – Sri Lanka Navy Maritime Exercise SLINEX-20 off Trincomalee from 19 to 21 October 2020
  1. The Eighth Edition of annual Indian Navy (IN) – Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX-20 is scheduled off Trincomalee, Sri Lanka from 19 to 21 October 2020.
  2. SLINEX-20 aims to enhance inter-operability, improve mutual understanding and exchange best practices and procedures for multi-faceted maritime operations between both navies.


IV. IRCTC restarts Tejas Express train after 6 months
  1. Indian Railway Catering And Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has restarted Tejas Express trains for catering to the growing passenger demand due to the festive season.
  2. The Lucknow-New Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express trains were suspended from March 19 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  3. IRCTC conducted an extensive training programme for Tejas staff to manage the operations amidst Covid-19 pandemic.


V. UP government launches ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign to tackle crime against women
    1. Uttar Pradesh government has launched a 6-month long women empowerment campaign ‘Mission Shakti’ to raise awareness and tackle crime against women in the state.
    2. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated this campaign Devi Paatan Shakti Peeth in Balrampur.
    3. The ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign was initiated by various ministers, public representatives and senior officials in all 75 districts across the state.

    1. Ministry of Steel in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing a Webinar on ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat: Fostering Steel Usage in Rural Economy, Agriculture,Rural Development, Dairying and Food Processing’ on 20th October 2020. Sh. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel will be the Guest of Honour at the webinar.
