Soumitra Chatterjee was a Superstar in Bengali cinema. Soumitra had worked in 14 films with Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray. Soumitra Chatterjee made his debut in the film 'Apur Sansar' in 1959.


Soumitra was the first Bangla person to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Soumitra received the National Award 3 times. Apart from this, he also received the Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

Soumitra Chatterjee was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of art by the Government of India in 2007.
