MDH owner Mahashay Dharampal Gulati passes away due to cardiac arrest

'Mahashay' Dharampal Gulati, the owner and CEO of the iconic spice masala brand MDH (Mahashian Di Hatti), passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was 97.

MDH owner Dharampal Gulati was undergoing treatment at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Delhi for the last three weeks.

Dharampal Gulati, known as 'Dadaji', 'Masala King', 'King of Spices' and 'Mahashay', was born in 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. After partition in 1947, Dharampal Gulati immigrated to India and stayed in a refugee camp in Amritsar.


Then he had just Rs 1,500. After coming to India, he started running a Horse tanga for the maintenance of the family. Then Dharampal Gulati opened a store in Karol Bagh, Delhi. He officially established his company in 1959.

Dharampal Gulati, became highest-paid CEO of a FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) company in India in 2017, according to reports.

He was conferred the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind last year for his outstanding contribution to business and industry.
