I. India, ADB sign USD 300 million loan to upgrade power distribution network in Uttar Pradesh: Quick Highlights
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India today signed a $300 million loan to upgrade rural power distribution networks to provide reliable electricity supply to consumers in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
- “The project will establish separate feeders for electricity supply to agriculture and residential consumers to promote better rationing and utilization of unmetered power; strengthen financial management of the state power distribution entity and improve bill collection in rural areas through community engagement involving the women’s self-help groups”.
II. Virtual Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be holding Virtual Summit with the Prime Minister of Vietnam H.E Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc on 21 December 2020.
- During the Summit, the two leaders will exchange views on wide-ranging bilateral, regional and global issues and provide guidance for the future development of India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
III. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hands over DRDO systems to Armed Forces Chiefs
- Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh today handed over three indigenously developed Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) systems to Army, Navy and Air Force at a function held in DRDO Bhawan.
- Shri Rajnath Singh handed over the Indian Maritime Situational Awareness System (IMSAS) to the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, ASTRA Mk-I Missile to Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauriaand Border Surveillance System (BOSS) to the Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane. The handing over of these products was done in the presence of Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, the Guest of Honour and Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
IV. ADB, India sign facility to support preparation of infrastructure projects in Tripura
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India today signed a $4.21 million project readiness financing (PRF) facility for the preparation of infrastructure development projects to improve urban amenities and develop tourism infrastructure in the northeastern state of Tripura. This is ADB’s first PRF facility for a state in the northeastern region of India.
- The facility will support the Government of Tripura’s priorities of improving urban services and tourism infrastructure through holistic planning by developing key infrastructure investment projects and related reforms in these sectors that will help boost economic development.
V. Ministry of Food Processing Industries signs a Joint Communique and 5 MoUs with Ministry of Tribal Affairs, TRIFED, ICAR, NSFDC, NAFED and NCDC
- Ministry of Food Processing Industries signeda Joint Communique with Ministry of Tribal Affairs and 5 MoUs with TRIFED(Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India ), ICAR( Indian Council of Agricultural Research), NSFDC(National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation), NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. ) and NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation) defining convergence mechanism in implementation of PM FME scheme.
- Further, the MoFPI signed an agreement with Union Bank of India as nodal bank for PM FME scheme. In another meeting chaired by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for FPI, 231 ODOP of 15 states and UTs were approved.
VI. Gadkari to inaugurate and lay foundation stone for 33 highway projects worth nearly Rs. 11,000 crore in Karnataka
- Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs Shri Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate and lay foundation stone for 33 highway projects in Karnataka today.
- These projects for inauguration and foundation laying carry a Road length of nearly 1200 kilometers, involving construction value of nearly Rs. 11,000 crore. Paving the way for development of Karnataka, these roads will enhance better connectivity, convenience and economic growth in the State.
VII. President Kovind to Grace the Goa’s Liberation Day Celebrations in Panaji Today
- The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, will visit Goa (Panaji) on December 19 and 20, 2020, to grace the commencement of the 60th Goa’s Liberation Day celebrations on December 19, 2020.
VIII. Union Minister Piyush Goyal launches India-Australia Economic Strategy Report
- Union Minister of Railways, Commerce and industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public distribution Shri Piyush Goyal today said that there is tremendous scope for Australian investment into India as we ease our FDI norms & open up different sectors. Addressing CII's session on Enhancing India Australia Bilateral Economic and Trade Relationship, he said that we have also opened up our Agri sector for greater investments in food processing & value addition. The Minister also launched India-Australia Economic Strategy Report.
