1. PM Narendra Modi lay Foundation Stone of the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur via video conferencing
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur on 2nd January 2021 at 11 AM via video conferencing. 
  • Governor and Chief Minister of Odisha, along with Union Ministers Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi will also be present on the occasion. The ceremony will be virtually attended by over 5000 invitees including officials, industry leaders, academicians and students, alumni & faculty of IIM Sambalpur.


2. BEL signs contract with Indian Navy for Initial supply of indigenously developed Laser Dazzlers
  • Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract with Indian Navy for initially supply 20 Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation Dazlers (Laser Dazzlers) in New Delhi today. The BEL had earlier this month won the contract beating global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in buy global category. These would be manufactured by BEL, Pune plant.
  • The Laser Dazzler is used as a non-lethal method for warning and stopping suspicious vehicles/boats/aircrafts/UAVs/pirates etc. from approaching secured areas during both day and night.


3. MoD signs contract with BEL to supply indigenously developed 10 Lynx U2 Fire Control systems for Indian Navy
  • Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for procurement of 10 Lynx U2 Fire Control systems for frontline warships of Indian Navy at a cost of Rs 1,355 crore under Buy (Indian) category in New Delhi.
  • The LYNX U2 GFCS is a Naval Gun Fire Control System designed to acquire, track and engage targets amidst sea clutter.


4. Indian Air Force launches e-Governance (e-Office) Portal
  • The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria PVSM AVSM VM ADC formally launched the IAF e-Governance (e-Office) portal at Air HQ, Vayu Bhavan on 31 Dec 20. The implementation undertaken as part of Digital India and e-governance initiative will transform the entire Indian Air Force to a ‘paperless office’ workflow. 
  • The launch of e-Governance in IAF marks a paradigm shift from the current method of correspondence, filing and documentation to a digital one.


5. Indian Railway launches upgraded e-Ticketing Website & Mobile App for booking of online Railway Tickets
  • Indian Railways has revamped & upgraded its e-ticketing website www.irctc.co.in and IRCTC Rail Connect Mobile App, which are used for booking of Railway tickets ‘online’.
  • The Upgraded e-ticketing Website & App, offering “Best-in-class” features, has been launched by Hon’ble Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Shri. Piyush Goyal today on 31st December, 2020.


6. CCI approves acquisition by TPG Growth V SF Markets Pte. Ltd. of 8% of the equity shareholding of API Holdings Private Limited
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition by TPG Growth V SF Markets Pte. Ltd. (“TPG/Acquirer”) of 8% (approx.) of the equity shareholding of API Holdings Private Limited (“API/Target”) under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
  • The Acquirer is a newly incorporated special purpose investment vehicle in Singapore and as on date, it does not have any physical presence and investments in India. The Acquirer would be jointly funded by TPG (i.e. TPG Global, LLC and its affiliates) and Korean Investment Corporation. 


7. CCI approves acquisition by Jamnalal Sons Private Limited of 51% of equity share capital of Mukand Sumi Special Steel Limited
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition by Jamnalal Sons Private Limited (“JSPL/Acquirer”) of 51% of equity share capital of Mukand Sumi Special Steel Limited (“MSSSL/Target”) under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
