Lt Gen Virendra Vats Assumes Charge As Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Lieutenant General Virendra Vats YSM, SM, VSM has assumed charge as the 35th Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in New Delhi on October 01, 2025. Lt Gen Virendra Vats has replaced Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh as Director General of NCC. Before being appointed as Director General (DG) of NCC, Lieutenant General Vats was the Commandant at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Lieutenant General Vats was commissioned into the 19 Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in December 1988. He brings with him 37 years of distinguished experience.

Lt Gen Virendra Vats Appointed As Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Lieutenant General Virendra Vats has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in New Delhi. Lt Gen Virendra Vats has taken over as Director General of NCC, replacing Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh.

Lt Gen Virendra Vats took over the appointment of 35th Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in New Delhi with effect from 1st October 2025.

Before being appointed as Director General (DG) of NCC, Lieutenant General Virendra Vats was the Commandant at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

Lt Gen Vats is taking over as Director General of NCC at a crucial juncture when the NCC, the world's largest uniformed youth organisation, is expanding its cadet strength to 20 lakh across 28 states and 8 Union Territories.

With its motto of Unity and Discipline, NCC is evolving in step with Viksit Bharat@2047, integrating innovation, digital skills and global awareness with its traditional focus on character building and patriotism.

About Lt Gen Virendra Vats DG of NCC

Lieutenant General Virendra Vats is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and National Defence College, New Delhi.

Lieutenant General Vats was commissioned into the 19 Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in December 1988. He brings with him 37 years of distinguished experience.

Lt Gen Virendra Vats has served in challenging Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism environments, and held key appointments in Arunachal Pradesh, the Kashmir Valley, and Army Headquarters.

He also commanded an Infantry Brigade under the United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prior to this appointment, Lt Gen Virendra Vats was the Commandant at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
