1. FM Nirmala Sitharaman to present Union Budget for 2021-22 in Lok Sabha today
  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the union budget for 2021-22 today at 11 AM in the Lok Sabha.
  • This year for the first time, the Union Budget will only be available in the digital format and can also be accessed through mobile app UNION BUDGET both on android and iOS platforms.


2. GST Revenue collection for January 2021 almost touches ₹1.20 lakh crore all time high since implementation of GST - Finance Ministry
  • The gross GST revenue collected in the month of January 2021till 6PM on 31.01.2021 is ₹ 1,19,847 crore of which CGST is ₹ 21,923 crore, SGST is ₹ 29,014 crore, IGST is ₹ 60,288 crore (including ₹ 27,424 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is ₹ 8,622 crore (including ₹ 883crore collected on import of goods). The total number of GSTR-3B Returns filed for the month of December up to 31stJanuary 2021 is 90 lakhs.


3. 13 day long Khelo India Zanskar Winter Sports and Youth Festival 2021 concludes in Ladakh
  • The 13 day long Khelo India Zanskar winter sports and youth festival concluded at Zanskar Valley of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The festival, first of its kind was organized by the Department of Sports & Youth Services under the Khelo India banner in collaboration with the Ladakh Tourism Department.
  • The festival was organised to showcase potential in adventure tourism and sports and aims to open a new arena in Ladakh for adventure and economy. It is one of the biggest events that has been organised to promote winter tourism in Ladakh.


4. VP Venkaiah Naidu Inaugurate National Tribal Festival “Aadi Mahotsav” On February 1, 2021 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi
  • The Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate “Aadi Mahotsav”, a National Tribal Festival being organized by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs at 6.30 PM on 1st February, 2021 (Monday) at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav is being organized from February 1-15, 2021.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav – A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Crafts, Cuisine and Commerce – is a successful annual initiative that was commenced in 2017. The festival was an attempt to familiarise the people with the rich and diverse craft, culture of the tribal communities across the country, in one place.


5. Minister Smriti Zubin inaugurates 8th India International Silk Fair on Virtual Portal
  • Union Minister for Women & Child Development and Textiles, Smt Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the 8th edition of India International Silk Fair virtually. 
  • The fair is considered to be India’s biggest silk fair, being held under one roof on Indian Silk Export Promotion Council’s virtual platform from 31st January to 4th February 2021.


6. ‘Power Cup 2021’ friendly cricket match played between Ministry of Power and Power CPSU teams
  • Power Cup 2021’, a friendly cricket match was played between teams of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India and Power CPSU teams on 30th January 2021 at New Delhi. Shri R.K. Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/c), Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
  • Shri Sanjiv Nandan Sahai (Secretary) Power, Govt. of India led the Ministry of Power Team while Shri R.S. Dhillon, CMD, PFC led the CPSU Power Team. NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company under the leadership of CMD, NHPC was the nodal organization for organizing this event.


7. CCI approves acquisition of Indo Gulf Fertilisers by Indorama India Private Limited
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of Indo Gulf Fertilisers by Indorama India Private Limited (IIPL) under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002. 
  • The proposed combination relates to the acquisition by IIPL of Indo Gulf Fertilizers (‘Target Business’) viz. fertiliser division of Grasim Industries Limited (‘GIL/Seller’), as a going concern on a slump sale basis. 
  • IIPL is principally engaged in manufacture, trading and sale of fertilisers, primarily, phosphatic fertilisers and speciality plant nutrients.


8. GDP growth rate for the next financial year 2020-21 is 11 percent: Economic Survey 2020-21
  • Economic Survey 2020-21 has projected GDP growth for the next financial year at 11 per cent.
  • The Economic Survey 2020-21, presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today suggested that the net exports and government consumption have cushioned the growth from further plunge.
