PM Narendra Modi launches Gati Shakti- National Master Plan for infrastructure development          

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Gati Shakti – National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity in New Delhi, heralding a new chapter in governance. Gati Shakti — a digital platform — will bring 16 Ministries including Railways and Roadways together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.

It will incorporate the infrastructure schemes of various Ministries and State Governments like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry/land ports, UDAN etc. Economic Zones like textile clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters, agri zones will be covered to improve connectivity & make Indian businesses more competitive. Chief of Army General MM Naravane official visit to Sri Lanka 

General MM Naravane, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has an official visit to Sri Lanka from 12 to 16 October 2021. This is his first visit to Sri Lanka as COAS.

During the visit, General MM Naravane will be meeting the Country’s senior military and civilian leadership where he will discuss avenues for enhancing India-Sri Lanka defence relations.

The Army Chief General MM Naravane will take forward the excellent defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and India through multiple meetings with senior officials of the security establishment and exchange views on various defence related issues. He will interact with the Service Chiefs, visit the Headquarters of the Sri Lankan Army, the Gajaba Regimental Headquarters and the Sri Lankan Military Academy.


Admiral Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations United States Navy visit to India  

Admiral Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, US Navy is on a five day official visit to India, from 11-15 Oct 21. During the visit, Admiral Gilday will interact with Adm Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff, in addition to other high-ranking Government of India (GoI) officials.

Admiral Gilday is scheduled to visit Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command (at Mumbai) and Eastern Naval Command (at Visakhapatnam) wherein he would interact with the respective Commander-in-Chiefs. Admiral Gilday is also scheduled to embark the USN Carrier Strike Group off the East Coast of India along with an Indian delegation.


Government accords “Maharatna” status to Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC)  

Govt. of India accorded ‘Maharatna’ status to the state-owned Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC), thus giving PFC greater operational and financial autonomy. An order to this effect was issued today by the Department of Public Enterprises, under the Ministry of Finance. Incorporated in 1986, PFC is the largest Infrastructure Finance Company  exclusively dedicated to the Power Sector under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power.


NHAI signs MoU with TIDCO for Development of Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Chennai Port's land  

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal has announced the formation of a Special Purpose vehicle (SPV) for development of a Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) at VOC Port in Chennai. The MMLP to be developed through Public Private Partnership with the SPV providing land and connectivity and the actual MMLP infrastructure to be developed by a private developer.

All the three stakeholders viz, Chennai Port Authority, TIDCO and NHAI will be equity partners in the proposed SVP.


NITI Aayog – UNDP Launch Handbook on Sustainable Management of Plastic Waste for Urban local bodies (ULBs)  

NITI Aayog and UNDP India launched a handbook to promote sustainable management of plastic waste in the country.

The report, titled ‘NITI Aayog-UNDP Handbook on Sustainable Urban Plastic Waste Management’, was released on 11th October, 2021 by NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Dr Rajiv Kumar, CEO Shri Amitabh Kant, Shri. Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, Secretary Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Special Secretary Dr K. RajeswaraRao, and Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India.

The report has been jointly developed by UNDP India and NITI Aayog, in consultation with eminent experts and leading organizations in the domain of plastic waste. The discussion for the Handbook was initiated in February 2021.


India Post launches e-PLI bond/ digital version of PLI policy bonds on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav occasion  

Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, launched the digital version of the Postal Life Insurance policy bonds, also termed as “ePLI bond”, on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in an event in New Delhi.

ePLI bond is made available in collaboration with DIGILOCKER, National eGovernance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) Government of India. DigiLocker has been providing a secure cloud-based platform for storage, sharing and verification of documents & certificates for various organisations.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 96.43 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.06%

With the administration of 50,63,845 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 96.43 Cr (96,43,79,212) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.06%. Recovery Rate is currently at its highest peak since March 2020. 15,823 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 1.46% remains less than 3% for the last 110 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 1.19%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 3% for the last 44 days and below 5% for 127 consecutive days now.
