India, Croatia signs MoU for academic research and competency building in traditional medicine systems     

India, Croatia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Paving the way for academic collaboration in India’s traditional medicine systems, especially in the field of Ayurveda, between the two countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and Croatia’s Kvarner Health Tourism Cluster. AIIA is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush.

The MoU with Croatia is a significant step towards bolstering India’s ties with other countries and promoting academic research, clinical and educational activities, medical education, training, and competency building.


Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flags off the Doon Drone Mela in Uttarakhand  

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia along with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) Dr. V.K. Singh flagged off the Doon Drone Mela 2021 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Scindia flagged off the event with a paragliding demonstration and also interacted with the drone companies exhibiting their prototypes at the Doon Drone Mela.

Furthermore, the event also included an emergency search & response drone demonstration with an indigenously 3D-printed drone by the Drone Application and Research Centre (DARC) & State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).


5th edition of INDIA-JAPAN Bilateral Maritime Exercise ‘JIMEX’  

The 5th edition of the bilateral maritime exercise JIMEX, between Japan and India, was conducted in the Arabian Sea from 06 – 08 October 2021. JIMEX series of exercises commenced in January 2012 with special focus on maritime security cooperation. The last edition of JIMEX was conducted in September 2020.

India – Japan Maritime Bilateral Exercise, JIMEX-21 aims to develop common understanding of operational procedures and enhance inter-operability through conduct of a multitude of advanced exercises, across the entire spectrum of maritime operations. Multi-faceted tactical exercises involving weapon firings, cross-deck helicopter operations and complex surface, anti-submarine and air warfare drills will consolidate coordination developed by the two navies.


Government Approves Air India Disinvestment; TATA sons' Wins Bid for Air India  

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) - empowered Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) approved the highest price bid of M/s Talace Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of M/s Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd for sale of 100% equity shareholding of Government of India in Air India along with equity shareholding of Air India in AIXL and AISATS.

The winning bid is for Rs 18,000 crore as Enterprise Value (EV) consideration for AI (100% shares of AI along with AI’s shareholding in AIXL and AISATS). The transaction does not include non-core assets including land and building, valued at Rs 14,718 crore, which are to be transferred to GoI’s Air India Asset Holding Limited (AIAHL).

The process for disinvestment of Air India and its subsidiaries commenced in June 2017 with the ‘in-principle’ approval of CCEA. The first round did not elicit any Expression of Interest. The process re-commenced on 27 January 2020 with issue of Preliminary Information Memorandum (PIM) and request for Expressions of Interest (EOI). 

The original construct as per the January 2020 PIM envisaged (i) pre-determined, fixed amount of debt to be retained in AI (with balance to be transferred to Air India Asset Holding Limited (AIAHL) and (ii) the sum of certain identified current and non-current liabilities (other than debt) to be retained in AI and AIXL would be equal to the sum of certain identified current and noncurrent assets of AI and AIXL (excess liabilities to be transferred to AIAHL).


RBI has announced October Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Statement 2021-2022: RBI keeps interest rates unchanged  

The Reserve Bank of India, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has announced the October Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement for the year 2021-2022: RBI has kept the key lending rate – Repo Rate unchanged at 4 per cent for the 8th time in a row.  

The Reverse Repo Rate also remains unchanged at 3.35 per cent. Announcing the decisions of the six-member Monetary Policy Committee, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the GDP forecast for FY 2021-22 is 9.5 per cent.

Key Highlights

  1. Increasing IMPS (Immediate Payment Service Transaction) per transaction limit from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 5 lakhs, to enhance customer convenience, enabling instant domestic fund transfer 24 x 7.
  2. Extension of Rs. 10,000 crore On-Tap Special Liquidity Long Term Repo Operations (SLTRO) for small finance banks, till December 31, 2021
  3. Introduction of pan-India Framework for Retail Digital Payment Solutions in offline mode, for areas with little or scarce internet access
  4. IMPS Transaction Limit to be increased from Rs. 2 Lakh to Rs. 5 Lakh
  5. Geo-tagging of all existing and new payment system touchpoints, to expand reach of payments acceptance infrastructure
  6. New fraud prevention cohort in RBI's Regulatory sandbox, to provide further impetus to fintech ecosystem
  7. Continuation of Enhanced Ways and Means Advance Limits and liberalized overdraft measures for states, till March 31, 2022
  8. Continuation of classifying bank lending to NBFCs as priority sector lending, till March 31, 2022
  9. Internal Ombudsman Scheme for NBFCs with higher customer interface, to strengthen internal grievance redress mechanism


NMCG & WASH Institute Signs MoU For Capacity Building In Faecal Sludge & Septage Management  

National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG) has signed an MoU with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute) to conduct a series of trainings to enhance the quality of service of officials in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).  This MoU is also to efficiently address FSSM issues in towns and cities of the Ganga Basin.

The project will be funded by USAID and supported by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It aims to improve preparedness towards FSSM (faecal sludge and septage management) and Wastewater Management in Indian towns and cities.


Sarbanand Sonowal launches ‘MyPortApp’ for digital monitoring of port operations  

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal launched a port mobile application called MyPortApp in Kolkata. The App includes all port details digitally and monitors operations virtually. 

Targeted towards Port Users for availing various Port services, the App is aimed to promote transparency and easy access of port related information. The app also has various information like Vessel Berthing, Rake & Indent, Rake Receipt, Container Status, Tariff, Bills, Port Holidays, etc. and can be accessed anywhere 24x7 and reach out directly to port. The Minister is on a 2-day visit to West Bengal where he inaugurated, launched and dedicated to Nation several projects worth Rs 352 crore.

Sonowal also inaugurated a 1 MegaWatt solar plant in Haldia port to produce renewable energy for port operations.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage crosses the landmark of 93 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 97.96%

With the administration of 50,17,753vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed the landmark of 93 Cr (93,17,17,191) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 97.96%. Recovery Rate is currently at its highest peak since March 2020. 21,257 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 1.64% remains less than 3% for the last 105 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 1.53%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 3% for the last 39 days and below 5% for 122 consecutive days now.
