1. President Ram Nath Kovind Presents Padma Awards for year 2021
  • The President of India Ram Nath Kovind presented four Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan and sixty-one Padma Shri Awards for the year 2020, today morning (November 8, 2021) at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were the Vice President of India  M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah.


2. Indian Navy hosts 3rd edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) – 2021
  • The third edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) – 2021 is being hosted by the Indian Navy from 07 to 09 November 2021 under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa. 
  • The theme for this year’s edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) is “Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for Proactive Role for IOR Navies”, which has been derived keeping in mind the necessity of ‘winning everyday peace’ in the maritime domain.

  • The President of India Ram Nath Kovind, will preside over the 51st Conference of Governors and Lt. Governors on November 11, 2021 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This will be the fourth Conference to be presided over by President Kovind.


4. 17 scientists from across India awarded Swarnajayanti Fellowships
  • Seventeen scientists from scientific institutions across India have been awarded the Swarnajayanti Fellowships for their innovative research ideas and the potential of creating impact on R&D in different disciplines.
  • Scientists selected for the award will be allowed to pursue unfettered research with a freedom and flexibility in terms of expenditure as approved in the research plan. The scientists with proven track record and selected through a rigorous three layered screening process will pursue basic research in frontier areas of science and technology.


5. Srinagar joins UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN)
  • Srinagar city of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) with a special mention for its craft and folk art.
  • The announcement was made by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay through a press release describing the list of 49 cities selected " in recognition of their commitment to placing the culture and creativity at the heart of their development and to sharing knowledge and good practices".

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated various National Highway and Road projects to the nation through video conference.
  • About 221 km of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg from Diveghat to Mohol and about 130 Km of Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg from Patas to Tondale – Bondale, will be four laned with dedicated walkways for ‘Palkhi’ on either side, at estimated costs of more than Rs. 6690 crore and about Rs. 4400 crore respectively.


7. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 108.47 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.24%
  • With the administration of 23,84,096 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 108.47 Cr (1,08,47,23,042) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
  • The recovery of 13,204 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,37,63,104.
  • Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.24%. 11,451 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
