Indian Bio-Jet Fuel Technology Receives Formal Military Certification    

CSIR-IIP Dehradun’s home-grown technology to produce bio-jet fuel has been formally approved for use on military aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The provisional clearance (PC) certificate was handed over by R.Kamalakannan,Group Director (AT&FOL), Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) to Mr Saleem Akhtar Farooqui, Principal Scientist from CSIR-IIP.

Key Highlights 

The technology, developed by the Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, has undergone evaluation tests and trials over the last three years. The testing of airborne items is a complex and meticulous process involving intricate checks while ensuring the highest levels of flight safety. 

International aviation standards define the scope of these rigorous assessments. Fuel being the lifeline of aircraft requires thorough analysis before being filled into manned flying machines. 

The certification received by the lab today is an acknowledgment of the satisfactory results obtained from various ground and inflight tests performed on the indigenous bio-jet fuel by various test agencies supported by the IAF.

Government approves strategic disinvestment of Central Electronics Ltd.  

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) empowered Alternative Mechanism (AM) comprising Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways; Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs; and Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) Ministry of Science and Technology, has approved the highest price bid of M/s Nandal Finance and Leasing Pvt Ltd for sale of 100% equity shareholding of GoI in Central Electronics Ltd (CEL)- a CPSE under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). The winning bid is for Rs 210,00,60000/- (Rupees two hundred ten crore sixty thousand only).

The process for disinvestment of CEL commenced in 27.10.2016 with the ‘in-principle’ approval of CCEA. In the first iteration, due process was followed for strategic sale of CEL, and the final SPA, along with 'Request for Proposal' document were shared with the Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) on 02.05.2019, inviting financial bid by 20.06.2019. However, no financial bids were received.


Kerala based Sascan Meditech start-up wins two prestigious awards at National level  

A Kerala-based medical technology start-up has been adjudged the winner of Startup India Grand Challenge 2021 in the medical device category of the Government of India.

Sascan Meditech, the start-up incubated at the SCTIMST-TIMed the Technology Business Incubator of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for MedicalSciences & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), received a Cash grant of INR 15,00,000 at the Grand Challenge organized by Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt of India along with Startup India and Invest India.

Sascan Meditech has developed OralScan, a handheld device for early, accurate, and cost-effective detection of pre-cancerous lesions in the mouth. It is a biophotonics technology-based device, and the results of clinical trials have been published in a scientific journal. Oral Scan was launched in October 2020 and has reached eight states in India.

Sascan’s second product CerviScan, a hand-held non-invasive device for cervical cancer screening and early detection of cervical cancer, will be launched soon. The startup was also recently selected as the winner of “AnjaniMashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award 2021” from Anjani Mashelkar Foundation, which engages in recognizing, rewarding, encouraging those responsible for creating value for the society in science, technology, and innovation domain by an eminent jury after review of applications from all over India.


Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan: Overview  

The aim of the redesigned Samagra Shiksha Scheme is to universalize access to school education; to promote equity through the inclusion of disadvantaged groups and weaker sections, and to improve the quality of education across all levels of school education from pre-primary to class XII.

The major objectives of the Scheme are:

  • (Support States and UTs in implementing the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020); 
  • Support States in implementation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009; 
  • Focus on Early Childhood Care and Education;

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 123.25 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.35%

With the administration of 78,80,545 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 123.25 Cr (1,23,25,02,767) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

The recovery of 10,116 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,40,18,299.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.35%. 6,990 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Active Caseload presently stands at 1,00,543. Active cases presently constitute 0.29% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.84% remains less than 1% for the last 16 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.69%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for last 57 days and below 3% for 92 consecutive days now.
