India Post Payments Bank's customer base crosses 5 Crore Mark 

India Post Payments Bank, IPPB, has crossed the five-crore customer mark in just 3 years of commencement of its operations to become one of the fastest growing digital payments bank in the country.

Announcing this achievement, the bank said that it has opened up these five crore accounts in digital and paperless mode through its one lakh 36 thousand Post Offices.

1.36 lakh Post Offices, out of which 1.20 lakh are in rural areas with the help of about 1.47 lakhs doorstep banking service providers. With this, IPPB has achieved the world’s largest digital financial literacy programme by building a financially aware and empowered customer-base leveraging the strength of 2,80,000 Post Office employees.

IPPB has further stated that it has taken digital banking to the grassroots-levels through Interoperable Payments and Settlement Systems of NPCI, RBI and UIDAI offering services in over 13 languages.

Interestingly, out of the total account holders, around 48% were women account holders; while 52% were male that indicating the Bank’s focus on bringing the women customers under the banking network.


Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship signs MoU with IGNOU to link vocational education and training with higher education   

To further strengthen the vocational and technical training framework, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU).

The partnership aims to link vocational education and training with higher education, making India’s youth employable by creating avenues for them to access better work opportunities.

Highlights with Details

The trainees attached to National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI), Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK) and Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS) will benefit from the programme, aimed at creating upward mobility of these students to be able to attain higher education for better livelihood opportunities.

Under the partnership, 32 NSTIs, more than 3,000 Government ITIs, 500 PMKKs and nearly 300 JSS will be associated with IGNOU as Registration Centres, Examination Centres and Work Centres for hands on training. Through the collaboration, students will now get an opportunity to join the three-year degree programme of IGNOU. There shall be a Project Steering Committee with representatives from both MSDE and IGNOU to monitor and review the progress of the programme.

The MoU is initially for a period of 10 years subject to renewal on mutual agreement. This MoU is in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal 4.4 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for increasing Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education including vocational education to 50 % by 2035.

India to host football AFC Women's Asian Cup India 2022 from 20th Jan 

India will host the football AFC Women's Asian Cup India 2022 from 20th January 2022.

The tournament, which will be held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, will witness 12 teams competing for the trophy. The AFC Women's Asian Cup India will also be the final stage of Asian qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 158.04 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 94.09%

With the administration of nearly 80 lakh Doses (79,91,230) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 158.04 Cr (1,58,04,41,770) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

1,57,421 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,53,94,882.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 94.09%. 2,38,018 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 17,36,628. Active cases constitute 4.62% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 14.92% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 14.43%.
