1. 1st India-Central Asia Virtual Summit
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format on 27 January 2022, which was attended by Presidents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. 
  • This first India-Central Asia coincided with the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Central Asian countries.

2. Air India handed over to the Tata Group after 69 years
  • Air India has been officially handed over to the Tata Sons Limited. The transaction cover three entities, Air India, Air India Express and AI SATS which was bought by Tata Sons in October 2021 at a bid of 18000 crores. This airline was established by JRD Tata in 1932 after which it was nationalized in 1953.

3. FM Nirmala Sitharaman to present Budget 2022-23 on 1st Feb in Paperless form
  • The Union Budget 2022-23 is to be presented by the Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on 1st February, 2022 in Paperless form.
  • In a historic move, the Union Budget of 2021-22 was delivered in paperless form for the first time. A “Union Budget Mobile App” was also launched for hassle-free access of Budget documents by Members of Parliament (MPs) and the general public.

4. Noted Hockey player Charanjit Singh passes away at 92
  • Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee Noted Hockey player Charanjit Singh passed away in Himachal Pradesh. He was 92. 
  • A charismatic halfback, Charanjit Singh led the Indian team to a historic gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics by defeating Pakistan in the final.

5. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 163.84 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 93.33%
  • With the administration of more than 22 lakh Doses (22,35,267) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 163.84 Cr (1,63,84,39,207) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
  • 3,06,357 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,76,77,328.
  • Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 93.33%. 2,86,384 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
