1. PM Modi to lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut today
- Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut today and lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University at around 1 P.M.
- The Major Dhyan Chand Sports University will be established at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at an estimated cost of about Rs 700 Crore.
2. GST Revenue collection over 1.29 lakh crore in December 2021
- The gross GST revenue collected in the month of December 2021 is Rs 1,29,780 crore of which CGST is Rs 22,578 crore, SGST is Rs 28,658 crore, IGST is Rs 69,155 crore (including Rs 37,527 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is Rs 9,389 crore (including Rs 614 crore collected on import of goods).
3. UPI register record transactions in December 2021
- The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has registered record transactions, both in volume and value terms in December 2021.
- According to data released by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in December, UPI recorded 4.56 billion transactions worth Rs 8.27 trillion.
4. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches 100 days reading campaign - Padhe Bharat
- Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a nationwide 100-day reading campaign - Padhe Bharat. The Campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 which emphasizes the promotion of joyful reading culture for children by ensuring the availability of age-appropriate reading books for children in their mother tongue, regional and local languages.
5. Finance Ministry announces over 5.89 crore ITRs filed on new e-filing portal till Dec 31
- The Finance Ministry announced that nearly five crore 89 lakh Income Tax Returns have been filed on the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department as on 31st December 2021. According to the Finance Ministry more than 46.11 lakh ITRs were filed on 31.12.2021.
6. PM Modi approves ex gratia from PMNRF for the victims of stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan
- The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims of stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan.
- An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
7. Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurates the 26th Dhaka International Trade Fair
- Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 26th annual Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF). Hasina declared the ICT products and services as the ‘product of the year 2022’.

- Asian Paints has become second-most valuable paints company in the world. The company's market capitalization rose 22 percent to $43.7 billion at the end of December 31, from $35.6 billion a year ago.
9. Williamson, Root, Rizwan, Afridi nominated for ICC Men's Cricketer of Year
- New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, England captain Joe Root and Pakistan players Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan have been selected for the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award for their outstanding performance across formats.
10. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 145.44 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.27%
- With the administration of 25,75,225 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 145.44 Cr (1,45,44,13,005) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
- 9,249 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,42,84,561.
- Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.27%. 27,553 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
