1. COVID-19 Vaccination of children between 15 and 18 years begins today
  • COVID-19 vaccination for children in the age group of 15 to 18 years begins across the country from today (3rd January 2022).
  • The vaccine option for children is only Covaxin for less than 18 years. The appointment for vaccination can be booked online or walk-in.


2. PM Modi to visit Manipur and Tripura on 4th January 2022
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the states of Manipur and Tripura on 4th January, 2022. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 22 Developmental Projects worth over Rs. 4800 crore in Imphal. 
  • Thereafter, at around 2 PM, in Agartala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and will also launch two key development initiatives.


3. PM Modi to lay foundation stone of multiple development projects in Punjab on 5 Jan
  • Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ferozepur, Punjab on 5th January, 2022 and will lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 42,750 crore. These projects include Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway; four laning of Amritsar – Una section; Mukerian - Talwara New Broad Gauge railway line; PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur and two new medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.


4. IAS Vini Mahajan Assumes Charge as Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti
  • IAS Ms. Vini Mahajan, assumed the charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in New Delhi. 
  • Ms. Mahajan is an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, where she was placed on the Roll of Honour. She did B.A. (Honours) Economics from Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Delhi University.


5. Srilanka to go bankrupt by 2022 with record-high inflation: Reports
  • Sri Lanka is facing a deepening financial and humanitarian crisis as inflation rises to record levels, food prices rocket and its coffers run dry.
  • According to media reports, the meltdown faced by the government, led by president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is in part caused by the immediate impact of the Covid crisis and the loss of tourism but is compounded by high government spending and tax cuts eroding state revenues, vast debt repayments to China.

7. Centre sticks to 8 lakh rupees annual income criteria for reservation to EWS candidates
  • The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it has decided to retain the existing 8 lakh rupees annual income criteria for candidates of Economic Weaker Sections for NEET-PG counselling.


8. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 145.68 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.20%
  • With the administration of 23,30,706 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 145.68 Cr (1,45,68,89,306) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
  • 10,846 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,42,95,407.
  • Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.20%. 33,750 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
