Key Highlights with Details: The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2021-22 in Parliament.

According to the Economic Survey 2021-22, India will witness GDP growth of 8.0-8.5 per cent in 2022-23, supported by widespread vaccine coverage, gains from supply-side reforms and easing of regulations, robust export growth, and availability of fiscal space to ramp up capital spending.

ECONOMIC SURVEY 2021-22: Key Highlights with Details Given Below 

  • As per World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and IMF projections, India to remain the fastest growing major economy in the world during 2021-24.
  • Indian economy to grow by 9.2% in real terms in 2021-22.
  • Agriculture to grow by 3.9 % in 2021-22 in comparison to 3.6% in the previous year. 
  • Industrial Sector to witness sharp rebound from a contraction of 7% in 2020-21 to expansion of 11.8% in 2021-22.
  • Services to clock 8.2% growth in 2021-22 after a contraction of 8.4% last year.
  • Foreign exchange reserves stood at us$ 634 billion as on 31st December 2021 equivalent to over 13 months of imports and higher than country’s external debt.

Army Vice Chief Lt. Gen CP Mohanty, retired from service 

Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, superannuated from service after four decades of illustrious service.

Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty tenure in the office will be remembered for the huge increase in emergency financial powers to purchase urgently required weapon platforms and equipment and the impetus given to induction of niche and disruptive technologies in the Army.

An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lt Gen CP Mohanty was commissioned into the Rajput Regiment on 12 Jun 1982.

Before taking over as the Vice Chief, the General Officer commanded the Pune-based Southern Command of the Indian Army.


16 new airports are to be built in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra 

The government will build 16 new airports in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. This information was given by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation in PM-Gati Shakti Conference(Virtual) for the Central Zone.

Only 74 airports were built in the last 70 years, now 66 more airports have become functional in the last 7 years and India has a total 140 Airports as on date. The cargo capacity in the ports has increased from 1280 million metric tons to 1760 million metric tons during the period.

The minister underlined that 16 new airports will be built in all five states of central India which took part in the conference. An airport will be built at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. Airports will also be built in Ambikapur, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. Nine airports will be built in Uttar Pradesh, one in Rajasthan and two in Maharashtra. National Highways of one lakh km will be widened under the PM- Gati Shakti.


Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 46th Raising Day today 

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is celebrating its 46th Raising Day today, February 01, 2022.

From just seven surface platforms in 1978, the ICG has grown into a formidable force with 158 ships and 70 aircraft in its inventory and is likely to achieve targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 80 aircraft by 2025. As the fourth largest Coast Guard in the world, it has played a significant role in securing the Indian coasts and enforcing regulations in the maritime zones of India.

The ICG has saved over 1,200 lives at sea in the last one year and more than 11,000 since its inception. It has also rescued approximately 13,000 personnel till date during various ‘Aid to Civil Authority’ operations viz. assistance provided to civil authorities during floods, cyclones and other natural calamities; most recently during the recent floods in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. Despite the restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ICG maintains round-the-clock vigil in the Exclusive Economic Zone by deploying about 50 ships and 12 aircraft daily.


NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam acquires 5% Equity stake in PXIL 

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd. (NVVN), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. has acquired a 5% equity stake in Power Exchange of India Ltd (PXIL). NVVN has purchased these shares from NSE Investment Limited, a co-promoter shareholder of PXIL.

NVVN is one of the top power traders in India and the acquisition of an equity stake in PXIL is a strategic opportunity for NVVN to achieve and maintain a leadership position in the rapidly changing Power trading market.

NVVN was formed by NTPC Ltd., India’s largest power generator and a Maharatna Company, in the year 2002, as its wholly owned subsidiary to tap the potential of power trading in the country. NVVN holds the highest Category ‘I’ power trading licence in terms of latest CERC regulations.

India’s Cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 166.68 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 94.60%

With the administration of more than 61 lakh Doses (61,45,767) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 166.68 Cr (1,66,68,48,204) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. 

2,54,076 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,92,30,198.   

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 94.60%. 1,67,059 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 17,43,059. Active cases constitute 4.20% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 15.25% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 11.69%.
