Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal begins 3-day visit to Australia   

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal left New Delhi on a 3-day visit to Australia. His visit comes days after India and Australia signed the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (Ind-Aus ECTA) on Saturday, 2nd April.

Australia is the 17th largest trading partner of India and India is Australia’s 9th largest trading partner. The ECTA is expected to almost double the bilateral trade from $ 27.5 bn (2021) to about $ 45 to $ 50 Billion in the next 5 years. ECTA is expected to create new employment opportunities, raise living standards and enhance the overall welfare of the peoples of both the countries. Additional employment generation is expected to be 10 lakhs within the next 5 years.


Two-day conference of ADGs & DDGs of NCC begins in New Delhi 

The two-day bi-annual conference of National Cadet Corps (NCC) commenced in New Delhi on April 05, 2022. Additional Directors General and Deputy Directors General representing all NCC Directorates across the country are attending the conference.

Discussion 

Major topics being discussed in the conference include early implementation of the ongoing expansion plan of NCC as per Government’s directives to meet the aspirations of the youth of the country.


Govt blocks 22 YouTube channels for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations 

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, utilizing the emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021, has issued orders on 04.04.2022 for blocking of twenty-two (22) YouTube based news channels, three (3) Twitter accounts, one (1) Facebook account, and one (1) news website.

The blocked YouTube channels had a cumulative viewership of over 260 crore, and were used to spread fake news, and coordinated disinformation over social media on subjects sensitive from the perspective of national security, India’s foreign relations, and public order.

This is the first time action has been taken on the Indian YouTube based news publishers since the notification of the IT Rules, 2021 in February last year. Through the recent blocking order, eighteen (18) Indian and four (4) Pakistan based YouTube news channels have been blocked.

Key Highlights 

  • This YouTube channels used logos of TV news channels & false thumbnails to mislead viewers
  • 3 Twitter accounts, 1 Facebook account, and 1 news website also blocked

NTPC inks pact with Gujarat Gas Ltd (GGL) to blend Green Hydrogen in Piped Natural Gas 

NTPC inked a pact with Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) to blending green hydrogen in Piped Natural Gas (PNG).

Background

NTPC is the premier energy utility in the country with an installed capacity of 69 GW, with a diversified fuel mix. The NTPC group plans to achieve 60 GW of RE in a decade and is executing several pilot projects in the green hydrogen space.

Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) is India's largest City Gas Distribution (CGD) Company and has a presence across 43 districts in 6 states and 1 Union territory.


Govt implements schemes to set up 50 Solar Parks in the country 

The Government is implementing a scheme for setting up 50 Solar Parks of aggregate capacity of 40,000 MW in the country. These parks are meant to provide developed infrastructure to facilitate installation of solar power projects. 

Central Financial Assistance of up to Rs. 25 Lakhs for preparation of Detailed Project Report and Rs. 20 Lakhs per MW or 30% of the project cost, whichever is lower, is provided for development of such Parks under the scheme.


Indian boxer Sumit enters semi-finals of Thailand Open 2022 

In Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022, Indian pugilist Sumit put up a dominating performance to enter the semi-finals of the tournament.

Sumit looked in good touch throughout as he comfortably secured a 5-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Timur Nurseitov in the men’s 75kg Last-8 bout.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 185.04 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.76%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 185.04 Cr (1,85,04,11,569) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. 1,086 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 1.98 Cr (1,98,31,257) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

India’s Active Caseload declines to today 11,871 Active cases now constitute 0.03% of the country's total Positive Cases.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.76%. 1,198 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,24,97,567.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.22% and the Daily Positivity rate is also reported to be 0.23%.
