India hosts BIMSTEC Expert Group meeting on Cyber Security: The National Security Council Secretariat, Government of India is organizing a two day Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Cyber Security Cooperation on 14-15 July 2022 in New Delhi.

The Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Shri Bhupender Yadav attended the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting held under the Chinese Presidency.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched Y- 3023 Dunagiri, Project 17A frigate built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata.

Background

P17A Frigates are a follow-on class of the P17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems. Seven P17A Frigates are under various stages of construction at Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL) and GRSE.


RBI imposes ₹50 lakh penalty on The Nasik Merchant's Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50.00 lakh (Rupees fifty lakh only) on The Nasik Merchant's Co-operative Bank Ltd., Nashik (the bank) for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Placement of deposits with other banks’ and ‘Interest Rate on Deposits’.

This action is based on deficiency in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.


Varanasi to be the first city in SCO to be granted the rotating title of Cultural and Tourism capital of SCO 

Varanasi will be the first city in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) region to be granted the rotating title of ‘Cultural & Tourism capital of SCO’ under a new mechanism during India’s SCO Presidency from September 2022 to September 2023.

India will take over as SCO chair from Uzbekistan at the Samarkand summit in September this year.


Minister Giriraj Singh inaugurates National Watershed Conference

The Department of Land Resources organized a National Watershed Conference in New Delhi on 14th July, 2022. National Watershed Conference inaugurated by Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

The Conference focused on doubling of Farmers Income through Production System: Horticulture/ Plantation in watershed project areas.


NHPC signs MoU for development of Pilot Green Hydrogen Technologies 

National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Private Limited (NHPC) signed two MoUs for the development of “Pilot Green Hydrogen Technologies” in line with the country’s resolve to reduce the carbon footprint in the Power Sector in Leh and Kargil districts of Union Territory of Ladakh.

Background

As per MOU signed for Leh district, NHPC shall consider the development of Pilot Green Hydrogen fuel cell-based Microgrid including Hydrogen production to meet the power requirement of the NHPC guest house at Nimmo Bazgo Power Station (Leh) within NHPC premises. According to the MOU signed for the Kargil district, the hydrogen generated in Kargil will be used in fuel cells for mobility which will be capable of running two buses for up to 8 hrs in the local area of Kargil.


Hardeep S. Puri launches 166 CNG stations across 14 states 

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri launched 166 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations to service of the community. These CNG stations have been set up by GAIL (India) Limited and nine of its group City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies in 41 Geographical Areas (GAs) across 14 states.


BCCI announces Indian squad for 5 T20I series against West Indies 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced an 18-member Indian men's squad for the five T20I match series against West Indies starting from July 29 in Trinidad.

Indian squad: Rohit Sharma (C), I Kishan, K.L. Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, D. Hooda, S. Iyer, D. Karthik, R. Pant, H. Pandya, R. Jadeja, Axar Patel, R. Ashwin, R. Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, B. Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 199.47 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.48%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 199.47 Cr (1,99,47,34,994) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.78 Cr (3,78,17,085) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,39,073. Active cases now constitute 0.32% of the country's total Positive Cases. 20,038 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.48%. 16,994 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,30,45,350.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.30% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.44%.
