India receives highest-ever FDI inflow around ₹6.31 lakh crore in last financial year  

India has received the highest-ever Foreign Direct Investment inflow of over six lakh 31 thousand crore rupees in the last financial year. This was stated by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Som Prakash, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.


RBI imposes ₹50,000 penalty on Gauhati Co-operative Urban Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50,000 (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) on The Gauhati Co-operative Urban Bank Limited, Guwahati (the bank), for non-compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) directions, 2016 issued by RBI.

Background

A Scrutiny of the bank in the matter of exchange of Specified Bank Notes, revealed, inter alia, non-compliance with above mentioned directions issued by RBI. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for failure to comply with the directions issued by RBI. After considering the bank’s reply to the notice, and examination of additional submissions, RBI concluded that the aforesaid charges of non-compliance with RBI directions warranted imposition of monetary penalty.


PM Modi to launch Power Sector’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme on 30th July 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Grand Finale marking the culmination of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’ on 30th July via video conferencing.

During the programme, PM Modi will launch the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. He will dedicate and lay the foundation stone of various green energy projects of NTPC. He will also launch the National Solar rooftop portal.

Key Highlights 

In a historic initiative, PM Modi will launch the Ministry of Power’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, which is aimed at improving the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of the DISCOMs and Power Departments.

During the programme, Prime Minister Modi will also dedicate and lay the foundation stone of various green energy projects of NTPC worth over Rs 5200 crore.

The Ramagundam project is India’s largest floating solar PV project with 4.5 lakh ‘Made in India’ solar PV modules. Kayamkulam project is the second largest floating solar PV project consisting of 3 lakh ‘Made in India’ solar PV panels floating on water.


Army Chief General Manoj Pande on an official visit to Bhutan 

General Manoj Pande, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has proceeded on a visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan from 29 July. This visit will further enhance the unique and time-tested bilateral relationship, characterised by utmost trust, goodwill and mutual understanding.

The Army Chief General Manoj Pande will commence his visit by paying homage at the National Memorial Chorten at Thimpu, built in the memory of the third King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. The COAS is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty The King and His Majesty The Fourth King.

The Army Chief General Manoj Pande will also engage in extensive discussions with his counterpart in the Royal Bhutan Army to exchange views on taking forward the strong cultural and professional bonds between both the Armies.


Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev on an official visit to India 

A fruitful discussion took place between the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev, and the Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, in New Delhi. During the meeting it was agreed to take forward the ongoing cooperation in the Agricultural sector between the two countries.


3 Companies signs Program Agreement under (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell 

Three selected bidders signed the Program Agreement under Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage.

The companies are Reliance New Energy Limited, Ola Electric Mobility Private Limited and Rajesh Exports Limited. These companies will receive incentives under India's ₹ 18,100 crore program. In addition to the capacities allocated by the Ministry of Heavy Industries under the PLI Program, private players are expected to create battery manufacturing capacity to the tune of~95 GWh.

A total of 10 bids were received from companies with a manufacturing capacity of 128 GWh under the PLI Scheme of ACC Battery Storage. Under the ACC PLI program, the manufacturing facility would have to be set up within a period of two years. The incentive will be disbursed thereafter over a period of five years on sale of batteries manufactured in India.


Govt notifies new set of specified health warnings on tobacco product 

The Union Health Ministry has notified a new set of specified health warnings on all tobacco product packs. The amended rules will be applicable with effect from the 1st December 2022.

As per the Health Ministry all tobacco products manufactured or imported, or packaged on or after the 1st of December, 2022 will display the image with the textual Health Warning as - Tobacco Causes Painful Death.

Violation of the provision is a punishable offence with imprisonment or fine as prescribed in the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.


80th Annual Convocation of Sugar Technologist’s Association of India held in Goa 

The 80th Annual Convocation of The Sugar Technologist’s Association of India was organized at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Goa on 28th and 29th July 2022.

The convention was attended by more than 1000 delegates from all over the country and abroad also. 78 companies involved in manufacture and supply of sugar & ethanol plant machinery, sugarcane harvesting equipment and technology providers are also participating in the convention. Looking at the importance of ethanol, one session has been dedicated to discussing ways and means for converting the Indian Sugar Industry as a hub for bio-energy.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 203.60 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.48%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 203.60 Cr (2,03,60,46,307) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.88 Cr (3,88,69,424) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,43,988. Active cases now constitute 0.33% of the country's total Positive Cases. 20,409 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.48%. 22,697 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,33,09,484.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.82% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 5.12%.
