India-EU holds 1st round of negotiations for Trade and Investment Agreements 

India and the European Union concluded the first round of negotiations for India-EU Trade and Investment Agreements, including the Geographical Indicators (GI), in New Delhi.

The week-long negotiations were held in a hybrid fashion – with some of the teams meeting in Delhi and the majority of officials joining virtually hybrid fashion. During this Round 52 technical Sessions covering 18 policy areas of FTA and 7 Sessions on Investment Protection and GIs were held.

India-EU 2nd round of negotiations for Trade and Investment Agreements 

The second round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in September 2022 at Brussels.

Background

India’s bilateral trade with the EU amounted to USD 116.36 billion in 2021-22. Despite the global disruptions, the bilateral trade achieved an impressive annual growth of 43.5% in 2021-22. Currently the EU is India’s second largest trading partner after the US, and the second largest destination for Indian exports. 

The trade agreement with the EU would help India in further expanding and diversifying its exports of goods and services, including securing the value chains. Both sides are aiming for the trade negotiations to be broad-based, balanced, and comprehensive, based on the principles of fairness and reciprocity.


Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh inaugurates new manufacturing facilities at Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Bhanur 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh visited the Bhanur Unit of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Telangana on July 02, 2022 and inaugurated the new manufacturing facilities set up by the Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU). These include a Warhead facility at the Bhanur Unit and a Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker facility at Kanchanbagh Unit.


NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd signs MoU with Government of Rajasthan 

NTPC Group has set its target of 60 GW Renewable energy capacity by 2032. As a step towards achieving this target, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Government of Rajasthan for development of 10 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park in Rajasthan.


RBI launches the July 2022 round of Consumer Confidence Survey 

The Reserve Bank of India has been regularly conducting Consumer Confidence Survey (CCS). The July 2022 round of the survey is now being launched. The survey seeks qualitative responses from households, regarding their sentiments on general economic situation, employment scenario, price level, households’ income and spending. 

The survey is conducted regularly in 19 cities, viz., Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram. The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.

The agency, Quality Council of India, Delhi has been engaged to conduct the survey of this round on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India.


India sends 7th batch of medical assistance to Afghanistan 

India supplied the seventh batch of medical assistance to Afghanistan, consisting of six tons of essential medicines. This is part of India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance. It was handed over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul.


Neeraj Chopra wins Silver medal at prestigious Diamond League meet 

Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal at the prestigious Diamond League meet in Stockholm as he broke his own national record for the second time in a month.

Neeraj Chopra finished 2nd at the Stockholm Diamond League with a massive throw of 89.94 meter. Reigning world champion Anderson Peters won the gold with a best throw of 90.31 meter.

Chopra broke his own national record of 89.30m that he set at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku earlier of June 2022.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 197.95 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.54%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 197.95 Cr (1,97,95,72,963) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.69 Cr (3,69,03,521) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,11,711. Active cases now constitute 0.26% of the country's total Positive Cases. 16,103 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.54%. 13,929 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,28,65,519.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 3.81% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.27%.
