India adds 11 more wetlands to list of Ramsar Sites
India adds 11 more wetlands to the list of Ramsar sites to make a total 75 Ramsar sites covering an area of 13,26,677 ha in the country in the 75th year of Independence.
The 11 new sites include: Four (4) sites in Tamil Nadu, Three (3) in Odisha, Two (2) in Jammu & Kashmir and One (1) each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Designation of these sites would help in conservation and management of wetlands and wise use of their resources.
During this year itself (2022) a total of 28 sites have been declared as Ramsar sites. Based on the date of designation mentioned on the Ramsar Certificate, the number is 19 for this year (2022) and 14 for the previous year (2021).....Read More
Four NBFC surrender their license to Reserve Bank of India
The following Four Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) have surrendered the Certificate of Registration (CoR) granted to them by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- Chettinad Financial Management Services Private Limited (Tamil Nadu)
- Trichy Sri Amman Finance Private Limited (Tamil Nadu)
- Nima Leasing and Finance Company Private Limited (Uttar Pradesh)
- North Pole Finance Limited (Gujarat)
RBI imposes ₹25 lakh penalty on Chhattisgarh Rajya Sahakari Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹25.00 lakh (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakh only) on Chhattisgarh Rajya Sahakari Bank Maryadit, Raipur (the bank) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC)) Directions, 2016’.
Background
The statutory inspection of the bank conducted by NABARD with reference to the bank’s financial position as on March 31, 2020, the Inspection Report pertaining thereto and examination of all related correspondence revealed, inter alia, that the bank had failed to put in place a system of periodic review of risk categorization of customers.
In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for non-compliance with the aforesaid directions issued by RBI.
Closing Ceremony: Indo Oman Joint Military Exercise Al Najaf IV
The Indo Oman Joint Military Exercise Al Najaf IV concluded at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges. A solemn Closing Ceremony marked the culmination of the exercise. This platoon level 13 days exercise had commenced on 01 August 2022.
Aims
The aim of the exercise was to achieve inter-operability and to acquaint each other with operational procedures and combat drills in a Counter Terrorism environment under United Nations mandate. Both the armies were able to achieve the stated objectives. The Indian contingent was from 18th Battalion of Mechanized Infantry Regiment and the Royal Army of Oman contingent was represented by Sultan of Oman Parachute Regiment.
Himachal Pradesh Assembly passes Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill 2022
The Himachal Pradesh assembly has passed the Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2022, forbidding mass conversion.
The bill refers to mass conversion which is described as the conversion of two or more people at the same time. It proposes to increase the punishment for forced conversion from seven years to a maximum of 10 years.

Govt launches first Saline Water Lantern using sea water to power specially designed LED lamps
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh launched India’s first Saline Water Lantern which uses the sea water to power the specially designed LED lamps.
The saline Water Lantern will bring “Ease of Living” to the fishing community living along the 7500 Kilometers long coastal line of India.
India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 207.99 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.54%
India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 207.99Cr (2,07,99,63,555) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.97 Cr (3,97,58,762) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.
India’s Active Caseload currently stands at1,16,861.Active cases now constitute 0.26% of the country's total Positive Cases. 14,092 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.54%. 16,454patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,36,09,566.
The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.57% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 3.69%.
