India, ADB sign $96.3 million loan to improve water supply and sanitation services in Himachal Pradesh   

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $96.3-million loan agreement to provide safe drinking water and improve water supply and sanitation services in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Background 

More than 90% of Himachal Pradesh's rural population have access to drinking water, but the water supply infrastructure needs revamping, to result in efficient and improved service quality.

The ADB project will connect 75,800 households to the service, providing uninterrupted water supply to about 3,70,000 residents across 10 districts. To improve water supply and sanitation services, the project aims to construct 48 groundwater wells, 80 surface water intake facilities, 109 water treatment plants, 117 pumping stations, and 3,000 km of water distribution pipelines. A pilot fecal sludge management and sanitation programme will also be implemented in Sirmaur District, benefiting 250,000 residents......Read More


PM Modi to visit Haryana and Punjab on 24th August 2022 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana and Punjab on 24th August, 2022. PM Modi will inaugurate Amrita Hospital at Faridabad, Haryana. Thereafter, PM Narendra Modi will travel to Mohali and dedicate ‘Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre’ to the Nation, at Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar District (Mohali).

The availability of modern medical infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR) will get a boost as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Amrita Hospital at Faridabad. Managed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, the super-specialty hospital will be equipped with 2600 beds. The hospital, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs. 6000 crores, will provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the people of Faridabad and the entire NCR region.

6th meeting of Australia India Education Council held in Sydney 

Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan held a bilateral meeting and co-chaired the 6th meeting of Australia India Education Council (AIEC) with Australian Counterpart Jason Clare at Western Sydney University (WSU).

During the Bilateral meeting, the Ministers had fruitful discussions on further strengthening cooperation in education, skill development, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Dharmendra Pradhan invited the Australian team to hold the 7th meeting of the Australia India Education Council (AIEC) in India next year.


IREDA signs MoU with MAHAPREIT to provide loans for Green Energy projects 

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) signed an MoU with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Ltd. (MAHAPREIT), a wholly owned subsidiary of MPBCDC (49% owned by Govt. of India and 51% owned by Govt. of Maharashtra).

In accordance with the MoU, IREDA will offer financing facilities to MAHAPREIT for the Renewable Energy projects to be implemented for state utilities, local bodies and the infrastructure of Renewable Energy Parks.


Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to 4-day visit to Nagaland 

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be on a three day visit to Nagaland today. HM Nirmala Sitharaman will attend the Nagaland Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Investment Conclave at Kohima.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address the inaugural session of the Conclave and thereafter inaugurate the exhibition stall. She will have a special session with CEOs and CSOs attending the conclave.


Minister Darshana Jardosh inaugurates Silk Mark Expo in New Delhi 

Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh inaugurated the Silk Mark Expo in New Delhi. The expo is being organised by the Silk Mark Organisation of India under Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles.

Silk Mark Expo which will run till 28th of this month, is aimed at protecting the interests of not only the silk consumers, but all the stakeholders of silk value chain.


Nominations for Padma Awards-2023 open till 15th September, 2022 

Online nominations/recommendations for the Padma Awards 2023 to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2023 have opened on 1st May 2022. The last date for nominations for Padma Awards is 15th September, 2022. The nominations/recommendations for Padma Awards will be received online only on the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in ).

Background

The Padma Awards, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, are amongst the highest civilian awards of the country. Instituted in 1954, these Awards are announced on the occasion of the Republic Day every year. 

The award seeks to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields/disciplines, such as, Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry etc. All persons
without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these Awards. Government servants including those working with PSUs, except Doctors and Scientists, are not eligible for Padma Awards.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 210.02 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.59%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 210.02 Cr (2,10,02,40,361) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.99 Cr (3,99,77,431) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 97,648. Active cases now constitute 0.22% of the country's total Positive Cases. 9,531 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.59%. 11,726 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,37,23,944.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 3.59% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.15%.
