DRDO & Indian Navy successfully flight-test VL-SRSAM Missile off Odisha coast    

DRDO & Indian Navy successfully flight-test VL-SRSAM: Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on August 23, 2022.

Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM): Key Highlights 

The flight test was carried out from an Indian Naval Ship against a high-speed unmanned aerial target for demonstration of vertical launch capability. India ranks 3rd at International Astronomy & Astrophysics Olympiad with 3 golds, 2 silvers 

India secured the third rank in medal tally at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). India held the third position jointly with Singapore with students winning three gold and two silver medals. The 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2022 held in Kutaisi, Georgia, from 14 to 21 August, 2022.

In the medals tally India was placed jointly in the third position along with Singapore, behind Iran's official team (5 golds) and guest team (4 golds, 1 silver). In all, 28 gold, 38 silver and 55 bronze medals were awarded at this IOAA. Raghav Goyal won a special prize for the best solution to the most challenging theoretical question.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting held in Tashkent 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh is visiting Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 23rd to 25th August, 2022 to attend the Annual Meeting of the Defence Ministers' of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member States.

During the Annual Meeting, Defence Cooperation issues among the SCO Member States will be discussed and it is expected that a joint communiqué will be issued after the deliberations.

RBI imposes ₹1 lakh penalty on Swagatam Marketing Private Ltd, Kolkata 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh (Rupees one lakh only) on Swagatam Marketing Private Limited, Kolkata for contravention of/ non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI to Non-Banking Financial Company (Non-Systemically Important, Non-Deposit taking) regarding Change in Management.


A reference was received from Department of Supervision, Kolkata regarding Swagatam Marketing Private Limited, a Non-Systemically Important and Non-Deposit taking Non-Banking Financial Company, indicating that the company had changed its management without prior approval of Reserve Bank of India thereby failing to adhere to the extant RBI directions. Based on the same, a Notice was issued to the company advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for non-compliance with the directions.

Mali Army appoints Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga as interim PM 

The military has appointed Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga as interim Prime Minister of Mali after Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga was admitted to hospital.

Before this appointment, Colonel Maiga was working as a Government Spokesman and Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 210.31 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.59%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 210.31 Cr (2,10,31,65,703) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4 Cr (4,00,16,064) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 96,506. Active cases now constitute 0.22% of the country's total Positive Cases. 8,586 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.59%. 9,680 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,37,33,624.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 3.31% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 2.19%.
