PM Modi inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Mohali     

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre to the Nation at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Mohali.

Background 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated ‘Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre’ to the Nation at Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar District, Mohali. The Hospital has been built at the cost of over Rs. 660 Crore by Tata Memorial Centre, an aided institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

The cancer Hospital is a tertiary care hospital with a 300-bed capacity. It is equipped with modern facilities to treat all types of cancers using every available treatment modality like Surgery, Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology - Chemotherapy, immunotherapy and Bone marrow transplant.

RBI lifts business restrictions imposed on American Express Banking Corp 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has lifted business restrictions imposed on American Express Banking Corp. The ban was imposed with effect from May 2021 due to non-compliance on storage of payment system data.

As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) "In view of the satisfactory compliance demonstrated by American Express Banking Corp. with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular dated April 6, 2018 on Storage of Payment System Data, the restrictions imposed, vide order dated April 23, 2021, on on-boarding of new domestic customers have been lifted with immediate effect".


13th edition of International Conference and Exhibition to be held in Pragati Maidan 

Union Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia will inaugurate the 13th edition of International Conference and Exhibition by the Indian Institute of Metals at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on 26th August 2022.

The theme of this year’s conference is "Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in Mineral and Metal Sectors".


Inter-Services Aquatics Championships begins at Visakhapatnam 

The 71st Inter Service Aquatics Championship for the year 2022 is being held at Command Swimming Pool, Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam.

The annual Championship is conducted under the aegis of the Services Sports Control Board and aims to select Services sportsmen for representation in National and thereafter International aquatics events.

The Services are fielding four teams, two from Army and one each from the Navy and Air Force. The Championship will be conducted over the next five days and will witness individual and team events in swimming, water polo, springboard and high-board dive. Over 150 participants from all three services are participating in the Championship.

The inaugural day of the Championship witnessed four swimming events namely, 400M Freestyle, 200M Individual Medley, 50M Breaststroke and 4 x 200M Freestyle Relay. The Chief Guest, Rear Adm R Vijay Sekhar awarded the medal winners and wished all teams the very best for the forthcoming events.

Pritam Siwach Academy finish as toppers in Phase 1 of Khelo India Women’s Hockey League (U-16) 

Pritam Siwach Hockey Academy, Sonepat have topped the Phase 1 of Khelo India Women’s Hockey League (U-16), which concluded at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium.

The academy girls, coached by Kuldeep Siwach, won all of their 7 pool games with an incredible goal difference of +134; the team conceded just three times en-route to earning 21 points.

HAR Hockey Academy, Haryana took the second position, while Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy stood third. They both finished on 19 points but HAR Academy recorded a better goal difference.

Total matches in Phase 1 of Khelo India Women’s Hockey League (U-16)

A total of 56 matches were played across seven days in the Phase 1, with a total of 16 teams participating. The one-of-a-kind Hockey league for the Sub Junior women, has been scheduled to take place over three phases.

The Sports Authority of India allocated total money of Rs 53.72 Lakh for 3 phases of the competition, which includes Prize money of Rs 15.5 Lakh.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 210.58 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.59%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 210.58 Cr (2,10,58,83,682) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4 Cr (4,00,65,627) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 96,442. Active cases now constitute 0.22% of the country's total Positive Cases. 10,649 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.59%. 10,677 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,37,44,301.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 3.32% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 2.62%.
