Scientist Samir V Kamat appointed as new Chairman of DRDO     

Scientist Samir V Kamat appointed as new Chairman of DRDO: Noted scientist Dr Samir Vankatpati Kamat was appointed as new Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Samir V Kamat currently is the Director General, Naval Systems & Materials, at the DRDO. Dr Kamat will succeed G Satheesh Reddy.

About DRDO New Chairman Dr Samir Vankatpati Kamat 

Samir V Kamat took over as Secretary DDR&D and Chairman Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on 26th Aug 2022.

Samir V Kamat completed his B. Tech (Hons) in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1985 and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University, USA in 1988 and joined DRDO in 1989

Samir V Kamat has provided leadership and direction to several critical materials programmes in DRDO such as development of high strength steels for naval ship hulls, development of high temperature titanium alloys and nickel base super alloy based components for aero engines, development of tungsten heavy alloys for kinetic energy penetrators, development of fused silica radomes for missile seekers, development of armour solutions for personnel as well as combat vehicles and stealth materials for airborne and naval applications. Queen Maxima of Netherlands on 3-day visit to India from Aug 29 to 31, 2022 

Queen Máxima is visiting India from August 29 to 31, 2022, in her official capacity as United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Inclusive Finance for Development and G20 GPFI Honorary Patron.

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Key Highlights 

The two leaders also discussed in detail several aspects of universal financial inclusion which has been one of the main agenda of the Government of India. The President said that the Government of India is committed to connect every Indian with formal banking channels through various means and to ensure that the benefits provided by the Government reach the last mile and the intended beneficiary without any pilferage. Queen Máxima appreciated the progress made in India in this direction in the last few years.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 211.91 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.62%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 211.91 Cr (2,11,91,05,738) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.02 Cr (4,02,61,326) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 84,931. Active cases now constitute 0.19% of the country's total Positive Cases. 7,591 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.62%. 9,206 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,38,02,993.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 2.69% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.58%.
