RBI imposes ₹36 lakh penalty on Industrial Bank of Korea 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹36 lakh (Rupees Thirty-six lakh only) on Industrial Bank of Korea for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Reserve Bank of India – Know Your Customer (KYC) Direction, 2016’.

Background

The Statutory Inspection for Supervisory Evaluation (lSE) of the bank was conducted by RBI with reference to bank’s financial position as on March 31, 2020, and the examination of the Risk Assessment Report and all related correspondences pertaining to the same revealed, inter alia, that the bank failed to put in place a system of periodic review of risk categorization of accounts. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for failure to comply with the said directions, as stated therein.


EAM S. Jaishankar on a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia  

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar embarked on a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. This is his first visit to Saudi Arabia as the Foreign Minister of India.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will co-chair the inaugural Ministerial Meeting of the Committee on Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation (PSSC) with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.


RBI imposes ₹12.35 lakh penalty on Indiabulls Commercial Credit Ltd, New Delhi     

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹12.35 lakh (Rupees Twelve lakh and thirty-five thousand only) on Indiabulls Commercial Credit Limited, New Delhi for non-compliance with certain provisions of the “Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC) Directions, 2016”.

Background

The statutory inspection of the company was conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2020 and examination of the Risk Assessment Report, Inspection Report, supervisory letter and all related correspondence pertaining to the same revealed, inter alia, the company’s failure to (i) allot Unique Customer Identification Code (UCIC) to its individual customers and (ii) carry out categorisation of customers based on its assessment and risk perception. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the company advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for failure to comply with the RBI directions, as stated therein.


Railways to introduce new avatar of high-speed train Vande Bharat

Indian Railways will be introducing the new avatar of high-speed train Vande Bharat namely Vande Bharat 2.

Key Highlights 

Vande Bharat 2 will be equipped with more advancements and improved features like 0 to 100 Kmpl speed in just 52 seconds, maximum speed up to 180 Kmph, lesser weight of 392 tons instead of 430 tons, and WI-FI content on demand.

New Vande Bharat 2 will also have 32-inch LCD TVs which were 24 inch in earlier versions. 15 percent more energy efficient ACs with dust-free clean air cooling of the traction motor will make the travel more comfortable. Side recliner seat facility which is being provided to Executive Class passengers will now be made available for all classes.


PM Modi inaugurates ‘Centre-State Science Conclave’ in Ahmedabad 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Centre-State Science Conclave’ in Ahmedabad via video conferencing.

The two-day Conclave is being organised at Science City, Ahmedabad on 10-11 September 2022. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 214.77 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.70%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 214.77 Cr (2,14,77,55,021) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.06 Cr (4,06,01,437) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 48,850. Active cases now constitute 0.11% of the country's total Positive Cases. 5,554 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.70%. 6,322 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,39,13,294.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.80% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.47%.
