Bharati Das takes charge as new Controller General of Accounts (CGA)  

Bharati Das took charge as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in New Delhi. Ms Das is the 27th Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Bharati Das, a 1988-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, is appointed by the Government of India as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, with effect from October 18, 2021.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hosts Indian Ocean Region plus Defence Ministers’ Conclave 

After the huge success of ‘Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defence Ministers’ Conclave’ held in February 2021, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hosted Indian Ocean Region plus (IOR+) Defence Ministers’ Conclave on the sidelines of 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The conclave was attended by 40 countries, with 22 ministers addressing the conference, some of them in hybrid mode. The broad theme was ‘Challenges, Opportunities and Collaborations in the Indian Ocean’.


PM Modi inaugurates DefExpo22 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated DefExpo 2022 at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on October 19, 2022. At the India Pavilion, the Prime Minister also unveiled HTT-40 - the indigenous trainer aircraft designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The aircraft has state-of-the-art contemporary systems and has been designed with pilot-friendly features. 

Prime Minister Modi also launched Mission DefSpace to develop innovative solutions for the Armed Forces in the space domain through industry and start-ups. He also laid the foundation stone of the Deesa airfield in Gujarat.


PM Modi unveils indigenous trainer aircraft HTT-40 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled HTT-40, an indigenous trainer aircraft designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), at the India Pavilion during 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Key Highlights

The aircraft has state-of-the-art contemporary systems and has been designed with pilot-friendly features. With over 60 per cent in-house parts and collaboration of private industry, it is a shining example of the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The HTT-40 would be used for basic flight training, aerobatics, instrument flying and close formation flights whereas its secondary roles would include navigation and night flying. It is a testament to the cutting-edge technology designed to meet primary training requirements of the Indian defence services.


REC & PFC ink MoA with STPL for financing Buxar Thermal Power Plant 

REC Limited and Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) - CPSEs under the Ministry of Power have signed a Memorandum of Loan Agreement with SJVN Thermal Private Ltd. (STPL) for financing 2x660 MW coal based Buxar Thermal Power Plant (BTPP).

The total estimated Project Cost is ₹12,172.74 Cr. with debt requirement of ₹8520.92 Cr. As per the MoA, the debt requirement shall be financed by REC & PFC.


CCI imposes sanctions on MakeMyTrip, GoIbibo and OYO for indulging in anti-competitive conduct 

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed monetary as well as behavioral sanctions on MMT-Go (MakeMyTrip and GoIbibo) for abusing its dominant position and also for having an anti-competitive arrangement with OYO (Oravel Stays Limited). Monetary penalty is also imposed on OYO for its anti-competitive arrangement with MMT-Go vide which MMT-Go delisted the competitors of OYO from its online portals in 2018.


Ulf Kristersson elected as the next Prime Minister of Sweden 

Ulf Kristersson elected as the next Prime Minister of Sweden. The Swedish parliament elected Kristersson, the conservative Moderate Party leader as the prime minister.

The 59-year old Ulf Kristersson was elected by 176-173 votes.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 219.46 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.76%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 219.46 Cr (2,19,46,34,236) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.11 Cr (4,11,94,276) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 25,510. Active cases now constitute 0.06% of the country's total Positive Cases. 2,141 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.76%. 2,579 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,40,82,064.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.97% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 0.85%
