Sanjeev Chopra assumes charge as new Food Secretary 

Sanjeev Chopra, has assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution with effect from 31st October 2022. He is a 1990 Batch IAS officer of Odisha Cadre.

Benjamin Netanyahu elected as new Prime Minister of Israel 

Benjamin Netanyahu has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Israel. A coalition of right-wing parties led by Netanyahu has won a majority in parliament.

The Netanyahu-led right-wing faction won a majority in the 120-member parliament, winning 64 seats. Elections were held in Israel for an unprecedented fifth time in the last four years.

The 73-year-old Benjamin Netanyahu is the longest-serving Prime Minister, having been elected for five times over the course of 15 years.


French Navy Ship Aconit visits Mumbai from 28 Oct to 02 Nov 2022 

French Navy Ship Aconit, one of the five La Fayette Class frigates of the French Navy was on a goodwill visit to Mumbai from 28 October to 02 November 2022. 

The ship's crew had professional and social interactions with personnel of Indian Navy. The visit culminated with an exercise at sea with a warship of the IN's Western Fleet. The frigate had earlier visited Visakhapatnam in 2015.

The Commanding Officer, Cdr Guyon, called on V Adm Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command and interacted with him over issues of mutual interest.


RBI imposes ₹2 lakh penalty on The City Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2.00 lakh (Rupees Two lakh only) on The City Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mysore, Karnataka for non-adherence / violation of directions issued under Management of Advances-Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs).

Background 

The inspection report of the bank based on its financial position as on March 31, 2020, revealed, inter alia, instances of sanction of gold loans in breach of the cap under bullet repayment scheme. Based on the same, a Notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for non-compliance with the directions.

Indian men's squash team clinched their first-ever gold at the Asian Squash Team Championships in Cheongju, South Korea. The Indian men's squash team defeated Kuwait in the final to won first ever gold medal at Asian Team Championships.
