India successfully test fires Agni-5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile off Odisha Coast

India successfully test fires Agni-5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile: India has successfully conducted night trials of nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni V, capable of striking targets at ranges up to 5,000 kilometers with very high degree of accuracy.

This was the latest test in the Agni missile series. It has a height of 17 metres and it is capable of carrying a 1.5-tonne warhead.

The Agni-5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile test firing was conducted from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast at around 5.30 pm yesterday (15 December 2022).

As per the sources, the test was carried out to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile that are now lighter than before. The Agni-5 missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Agni Missile Background

The current version Agni IV is capable of engaging targets up to a range of 4,000 km while Agni-III has a range of 3,000 km, Agni II can hit a range of 2,000 km.(inp:newsOnair)
