Michael Debabrata Patra re-appointed as RBI Deputy Governor 

The Central Government has re-appointed Dr. Michael Debabrata Patra as Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a further period of one year with effect from January 15, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

About RBI Deputy Governor Michael Debabrata Patra

Michael Debabrata Patra took over as Deputy Governor of the RBI on January 15 2020. He was an Executive Director of India's central bank before being elevated to the post of Deputy Governor.


PM Modi inaugurates 26th National Youth Festival in Hubbali, Karnataka 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 26th National Youth Festival in Hubbali, Karnataka. The programme is being held on National Youth Day, which is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, to honour and cherish his ideals, teachings and contributions. 

The theme of the festival is ‘Viksit Yuva - Viksit Bharat’ and it brings diverse cultures from all parts of the country on a common platform and unites the participants in the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

26th National Youth Festival: Background

The National Youth Festival is held every year to provide exposure to our talented youth at the national level, along with galvanising them towards nation-building. It brings diverse cultures from all parts of the country on a common platform and unites the participants in the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. The Festival is being held in Hubballi-Dharwad in Karnataka from 12th to 16th January, with the theme ‘Viksit Yuva - Viksit Bharat’.


Former Union Minister Sharad Yadav passes away at 75 

Former Union Minister and socialist leader, Sharad Yadav passed away. He was 75. The 75-year-old veteran politician was ailing for sometime and breathed his last at a private hospital in Gurugram.

Sharad Yadav was the president of the party for a long time after the formation of Janata Dal in 2003. He was also a seven-time Lok Sabha MP.

Sharad Yadav represented the Lok Sabha four times from the Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency of Bihar. Twice he was elected MP from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Once reached the Lok Sabha from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh.


Indian peacekeepers awarded UN medals for their exceptional service in South Sudan 

Over one thousand Indian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were awarded United Nations medals for their exceptional service.

In a tweet, UNMISS said, 1,171 Indians have received UN medals for their vital work in Upper Nile, South Sudan.


Retail inflation eased to 5.72% in December from 5.88% in the previous month 

Retail inflation, based on the consumer price index (CPI), eased to a one-year low of 5.72 percent in December from 5.88 percent the previous month.


13th Ministerial-level meeting of India-United States Trade Policy Forum (TPF) in Washington, DC

REC inks three MoUs in backdrop of Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 

REC (formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Limited) is a Navratna company under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power inked strategic MoUs in the backdrop of the Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023.

The first MoU was signed with the MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL), to extend financial assistance of ₹15,086 crores for upcoming Sarani and Amarkantak thermal power projects, system improvement works, technology upgradation, renovation & modernization etc.

The second MoU was inked with Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd. (RUMSL) wherein REC will commit a sum of ₹1,000 crores as financial assistance for renewable energy projects covering the development of renewable energy parks/projects, and/or associated infrastructure including power evacuation.


Minister Bhupender Yadav holds bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of Environment 

Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav today held a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of the Environment Akihiro Nishimura in New Delhi.

In the meeting, both leaders discussed a range of issues including G7-G20 collaboration, Marine, Plastic Waste, COP-27, and CBD 15. Speaking on this occasion Bhupender Yadav said that it is a coincidence that both Japan and India have taken over the Presidencies of the G7 and G20.


India to send three person to 6,000 metre below sea level under Samudrayaan Mission 

India will send three people to six thousand metres below sea level for exploration of resources like minerals under Samudrayaan Mission. As per the Earth Science Minister Dr Jitendra Singh a vehicle called MATSYA 6000 will carry three persons and this mission is expected to be realized in next three years.

The vehicle is being designed and developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai. It has an endurance of 12 hours under normal operation and 96 hours in case of emergency for human safety.
