21st edition of India-France Bilateral Naval Exercise VARUNA 2023 to be held from 16-20 Jan

The 21st edition of the Bilateral Naval Exercise between India and France – Exercise Varuna commenced on the Western Seaboard 16 January 2023. While the bilateral exercise between the two navies were initiated in 1993, it was christened as ‘VARUNA’ in 2001 and has become a hallmark of India – France strategic bilateral relationship.

This edition will witness participation of indigenous guided missile stealth destroyer INS Chennai, guided missile frigate INS Teg, maritime patrol aircraft P-8I and Dornier, integral helicopters and MiG29K fighter aircraft. The French Navy will be represented by the aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle, frigates FS Forbin and Provence, support vessel FS Marne and maritime patrol aircraft Atlantique.

G20 first Health Working Group Meeting to be held in Thiruvananthapuram from 18-20 Jan

The 1st Health Working Group meeting under G20 India Presidency will be held from 18th – 20th January, 2023 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In a significant milestone, India assumed the presidency of the G20 on 1st December, 2022.

Key Highlights

India is currently part of the G20 Troika comprising Indonesia, India and Brazil, marking the first time that the troika consists of three developing and emerging economies.

India's G20 Presidency will focus on three main priorities: Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness and Response (One Health & AMR); Access and Availability to Affordable Medical Countermeasures (Vaccines, Therapeutics, and Diagnostics); and Digital Health.

B20 inception meeting to be held in Gandhinagar from 22-24 Jan 2023

As part of India’s G20 presidency, a Business-20 (B20) inception meeting will be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat between the 22nd to 24th of January 2023.

The meeting will be held to formulate policy recommendations to be submitted to G-20 ahead of the leaders' Summit. More than 150 policy-makers, business executives, CEOs, and senior executives representing enterprises from G-20 countries will take part in the inaugural meeting.

RBI imposes ₹2 lakh penalty on the District Co-operative Bank Dehradun

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2.00 lakh (Rupees Two Lakh only) on the District Co-operative Bank Limited, Dehradun, Uttarakhand for contravention of provisions of section 20 with section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Tripura in New Delhi for Development of Floating and Ground Mounted based Renewable Energy Projects in the State of Tripura.

The MoU was signed by Shri Rajiv Gupta, Chief General Manager, NTPC REL and Shri Mahananda Debbarma, Director General and CEO, Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency.

This MoU embarks upon the journey towards development of large sized Renewable Energy Projects in the State of Tripura and shall help Govt of Tripura in meeting its Clean Energy Commitments and obligations.
